As part of Alert Marin Day on Jan. 26, Marin County Supervisor Judy Arnold will be at Vintage Oaks Shopping Center in Novato on Saturday afternoon to help people register for the new updates on the county's Telephone Emergency Notification System. Anyone who registers can receive important (possibly life-saving) notifications sent to you electronically.
If you live, work or go to school in Marin and are at least 18 years of age, you may register your cell phone or VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) phone to receive emergency alerts sent by call, text or email from the County of Marin. TENS is a high-speed communications system that can quickly notify members of the public by phone of critical emergency information in situations where property or human life is in danger. Emergency situations may include: flooding, wildfires, and subsequent evacuations; public safety incidents including crimes that affect your neighborhood; and post-disaster information about shelters, transportation or supplies.
Listed and unlisted/blocked Marin landline phone numbers are already included in the emergency notification system.
You can chat with Arnold from 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday — stationed between Petco and Party City — to learn more about the program. Volunteers will be throughout Marin at shopping malls, grocery stores and other community locations doing outreach and education about the program. You can register at www.alertmarin.org.
