"Changing Government to Fit New Realities" Conference Set for June 2

The North Bay’s local governments collectively spend over $2.5 billion a year.  And virtually all of them are in a budget crisis! To fix this fiscal disaster, most often the choice is between making more cuts and/or raising taxes.  If you want more choices, please come to North Bay Leadership Council’s Economic Insight Conference on “Changing Government to Fit New Realities,” June 2 at the Sheraton Hotel, Petaluma.

The conference will present new ways to deliver governmental services including shared functions, public/private partnerships, consolidations, outsourcing and more.  Recognizing that governments’ current structure and financing are unsustainable, the conference will explore how other governmental agencies have made government work more cost-effectively and efficiently.

NBLC commissioned Dr. Robert Eyler, Director, SSU’s Center for Regional Economic Analysis, to prepare and present the report.  His research shows that there are many alternatives for how governmental services are delivered.  A response panel consisting of Joe Nation, former Assembly member and Stanford professor, and Jason Wolenik, Manager, Accenture Strategy, will give their reactions to the report and discuss their knowledge of restructuring and fiscal realities.  Wolenik is an author of a study on new government models, “Cross Jurisdictional Collaboration.”  Cynthia Murray, NBLC’s President and CEO, will serve as moderator.
