Doyle Drive Reopens on Schedule, GG Bridge Access Smooth

Weekend upgrade to northbound bridge access completed on schedule

The northbound approach to the Golden Gate Bridge has reopened as scheduled Monday morning and commuters are making their way along the roadway after crews completed around-the-clock demolition work on Doyle Drive over the weekend, a Caltrans spokeswoman said.

Traffic was flowing smoothly on the road as of 5:15 a.m. as motorists adjusted to the new roadway that is undergoing a $1.1 billion seismic upgrade project, Caltrans spokeswoman Molly Graham said.

She advised drivers making the commute along Doyle Drive to expect some delays.

"Generally when there is a big change like this, drivers need time to get used to it and adjust," she said. The five-lane approach to the bridge now features a moveable barrier that allows three lanes to be dedicated to the busiest direction of traffic, Graham said.
