, and workers are hurriedly getting ready for the big event. As a result, drivers will see delays between now and the planned April 27-30 closure of one of the main arteries for local residents commuting to and from San Francisco.

Weekend travelers between Marin and San Francisco will have to navigate a complete closure of Doyle Drive from 8 p.m. April 27 to 5 a.m. April 30, according to officials behind the $1.1 billion Presidio Parkway project. The roadway is being shut down to allow for the demolition of Doyle Drive and for the opening of its Presidio Parkway replacement.

To prepare for the closure, there will be overnight work and lane closures along northbound Doyle Drive through April 27. Between 8 p.m. to noon each weekday and from 9 p.m. to noon on weekends, drivers may experience delays on northbound Doyle Drive, project organizers said this week.

Workers will be removing utility pipes in the sidewalk that contain asbestos overnight. Such work is common prior to the demolition of old structures and does not pose a health risk to the public, officials said.

As a result of the April 27-30 closure, all travelers exiting the Golden Gate Bridge southbound will have to exit onto Highway 1 or into the Presidio during that period. There will be no access to Highway 101 from Marina Boulevard or Lombard Street.

The Presidio Parkway is a “seismically safe temporary bypass” that includes a new bridge and a tunnel. Traffic will remain on this route until construction is complete in 2015, organizers said.

Officials said they expect public transit to be modified to cushion the blow of the closure, and motorists are encouraged to use the Bay Bridge to access San Francisco.

Project organizers are also hosting public meetings in San Francisco’s Richmond and Marina districts. Click here for more info.
