Four residents are vying for two openings on the Novato City Council this fall.
Among them are incumbents Pat Eklund, the current mayor, and Councilwoman Denise Athas, a realtor who owns a real estate firm in downtown Novato. Athas served as mayor in 2012.
Other candidates include Eleanor Sluis, a retired teacher, and Steve Jordan, co-owner of Creekside Bakery. Sluis has casts herself as a community activist who wants to preserve Novato’s working class roots and fight high-density development. She ran for City Council in 2011.
Jordan is a past board president of the Novato Downtown Business Association and best known for his efforts to get the group to spend merchant on promotional events such as kiosks and benches that he says would do more to bring shoppers inside downtown stores.
Novato Patch will be sitting down with all of the candidates over the next month. In the meanwhile, you tell us. What issues are key for you? What would you like to see in whoever is elected to council?
