4 Candidates in the Running for City Council

What would you like to see in whoever is elected?




Four residents are vying for two openings on the Novato City Council this fall.

Among them are incumbents Pat Eklund, the current mayor, and Councilwoman Denise Athas, a realtor who owns a real estate firm in downtown Novato. Athas served as mayor in 2012.

Other candidates include Eleanor Sluis, a retired teacher, and Steve Jordan, co-owner of Creekside Bakery. Sluis has casts herself as a community activist who wants to preserve Novato’s working class roots and fight high-density development. She ran for City Council in 2011.

Jordan is a past board president of the Novato Downtown Business Association and best known for his efforts to get the group to spend merchant on promotional events such as kiosks and benches that he says would do more to bring shoppers inside downtown stores.
