Would-be Burglars Pick Wrong Day to Hit Library

The following information from June 24-26 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner: 

June 25, 8:29 a.m. – A burglary was reported at Hamilton Meadow Park School on Main Gate Road.  The door to the library was taken off its hinges.  Unknown(s) attempted to gain access to the library.  The area is currently being renovated.  There is no loss or any items of value inside. 

June 24

12:12 a.m. – A juvenile disturbance was reported at the Wyndover Apartments in the 800 block of Diablo Avenue.  The reporting party said that two boys came through the gates and threw an unknown object into the pool and smashed up some plants.  They then ran toward the 7-Eleven store.  Officer(s) contacted the reporting party who said that the kids left in a vehicle.  A description of the vehicle was not provided. 

12:21 a.m. – A reporting party in the 1100 block of Simmons Lane said that a woman was knocking on the door saying “Let me in.”  The reporting party did not know who the woman was and would not let her in.  She was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of being drunk in public.

12:37 a.m. – A verbal disturbance was reported in the vicinity of Simmons Lane and Virginia Avenue.  The reporting party said that a man and woman could be heard yelling outside.  Officer(s) contacted a man who said he was punched.  He refused medical assistance and was uncooperative and did not want to report the incident.  Nothing further was requested from officers. 

1:29 a.m. – A reporting party on Summers Avenue said that there was a loud party in the area.  One juvenile was cited and released to a parent on suspicion of being drunk in public.  A resident was cited on suspicion of violating the social host ordinance. 

9:20 a.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 1000 block of Green Oak Drive.  Unknown(s) took a Ryobi blower, a Skill weedwacker and gas trimmer and other miscellaneous items from the bed of the victim’s truck overnight.  

4:39 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 1500 block of South Novato Boulevard.  There were no signs of a forced entry but the reporting party said that someone was in his apartment and used his computer while he was gone last week.  The reporting party has a civil problem with the apartment complex manager.  He was advised to contact the manager’s boss.  The reporting party had given permission for maintenance repairmen to come into his apartment.  

6:55 p.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 1500 block of South Novato Boulevard.  The reporting party’s Cube Nature bike with red stripes was last seen yesterday at 8 p.m.  The value of the bike is approximately $1,300. 

8:25 p.m. – A child abuse report was filed in the 1600 block of Merritt Drive.  Child Protective Services advised the reporting party to come into the PD to have photos taken of her 6-year-old daughter.  The reporting party said that her daughter had been kicked by her father, which caused the girl’s left leg to bruise. 

9:34 p.m. – A fraud was reported at Red Boy Pizza on Diablo Avenue.  A group walked out on their bill.  Suspect information was provided to officer(s).

June 25 

4:15 a.m. – One person at Hamilton Marketplace in the 5800 block of Nave Drive was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of public drunkenness. 

7:41 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 300 block of Enfrente Road.  Unknown(s) took the victim’s purse that contained an I.D. and cash from a locked vehicle.  There were no signs of forced entry.  A stereo was also taken. 

10:31 a.m. – A stolen vehicle in the 2400 block of Novato Boulevard was recovered and returned to the owner. 

1:48 p.m. – A juvenile disturbance was reported in the vicinity of Jade Court and Vallejo Avenue.  The reporting party said that there were kids throwing rocks at cars in the area. The boys were admonished and then they cleaned up the rocks in the street.  Officer(s) left voice mails for both of the boys' mothers. 

8:11 p.m. – A burglary was reported at Chipotle in the 800 block of De Long Avenue.  An employee’s vehicle was broken into in the parking lot.  The loss is a wallet, a purse and a phone. 

9:38 p.m. – A health and safety violation was reported in the 1100 block of Grant Avenue.  Two girls and a boy were smoking marijuana out of a bong pipe.  The three are lying on the ground and sitting on milk crates.  Officer(s) contacted five people who were sitting near the rear parking lot.  No violations were observed but all were moved along. 

June 26 

3:21 a.m. – A noise disturbance was reported on Buena Vista Drive.  A neighbor of the reporting party was playing his guitar outside.  All subjects were advised. 

6:46 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 1300 block of Olive Avenue.  A silver 2002 Lexus was broken into overnight.  The car had been locked but the passenger door was found unlocked this morning.  The loss is a laptop and some change. 

1:45 p.m. – Advice was provided to a citizen at Stefano’s Pizza in the 1500 block of South Novato Boulevard.  A 55-year-old woman was arguing with the reporting party over payment of a pizza.  Officer(s) contacted the reporting party, who requested that the officer(s) admonish an employee for erratic driving.  Officer(s) spoke with the employee. 

3:53 p.m. – A woman drove her car into a tree in the vicinity of De Long Avenue and Reichert Avenue.  One was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. 

5:34 p.m. – A homeless man had reportedly fallen asleep in a chair outside the La Hacienda Taqueria in the 1400 block of Grant Avenue.  The reporting party said he is breathing but won’t wake up.  The man was booked on suspicion of public drunkenness and a complaint was forwarded to the D.A.’s office for a violation of probation. 

8:41 p.m. – Three people were contacted at the Hamilton Pool in the 200 block of El Bonito Drive.  They were found to be in possession of alcohol.  One was cited for the violation.
