Worse than Detention? Parent Cited for Kid's Truancy

The following information from Jan. 21-23 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner:

9:42 a.m. – The mother of a student at Hill Education Center on Diablo Avenue was cited for her child’s chronic truancy per a penal code violation that went into effect Jan. 1, 2011.

12:28 a.m. – A woman on Mary Jane Lane reported that her husband had been drinking and attempted to kick in their front door upon coming home.  He smashed a glass panel on the door.

4:10 a.m. – A window of a black Ford Explorer was smashed in front of the Safeway store at 900 Diablo Avenue. A wallet was stolen.

12:51 p.m. – A verbal disturbance was reported on Margarita Terrace by a person claiming her next door neighbor was outside screaming at her and using obscenities.

4:01 p.m. – A parked brown Chevrolet Silverado on Plum Street sustained damage to the passenger side after being the subject of a hit-and-run collision by a white larger vehicle.

6:39 p.m. – A man reported receiving a counterfeit $20 bill at the Grocery Outlet store the previous day.  The store refused to exchange the bill when the man went back to the store, but he refused police assistance stating he intended to resolve the matter with the management.

7:28 p.m. – A non-injury crash occurred at Rowland Boulevard and Rowland Way.  Information was exchanged amicably.

10:08 p.m.  – The parent of a teen boy on Plata Court requested pressing charges after the son punched a hole in the wall of his house causing approximately $100 in damage.  The parent also found an ounce of marijuana allegedly belonging to the son. The responding officers cited the son.

Jan. 22

5:15 a.m. – Graffiti was reported at Ito’s White Tiger Martial Arts Studio on Grant Avenue.

1:21 p.m. – A misdemeanor hit-and-run was reported at the Safeway parking lot at 900 Diablo Avenue.  A woman’s car was struck by large brown truck whose driver did not stop, causing approximately $2,600 in damage.

2:57 p.m. – A collision occurred at the rear parking lot of Kaiser medical offices on San Marin Drive between a black Camaro and a gray Infiniti.  One driver did not have insurance.

7:45 p.m. – A man on Hutchins Way allegedly threw plates and glasses at his roommate before leaving their apartment.  The police were advised of a possible probation violation.

Jan. 23

8:39 a.m. – An estimated $20,000 in damage occurred on Hangar Avenue as a result of all of the parking lot lights being allegedly shot out.

9:07 a.m. – Gasoline was reportedly siphoned from a blue Chevy Tahoe on Lilac Place.

10:15 a.m. – A burglary on Eames Court was discovered when the caretaker arrived and found the front door unlocked.  A television was missing and the house had been gone through.

1:08 p.m. – A maroon Pontiac and a black Lexus were involved in a rear-end collision at the 1700 block of Novato Boulevard.  One person complained of an injured back.

2:12 p.m. – A bearded man looking to be in his 40s was reported to be aggressively soliciting customers of the CVS at 2035 Novato Blvd. and refused to leave when asked by management.  Police responded and moved the man along.

4:02 p.m. – A person in custody at the Costco in the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center for alleged shoplifting was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of burglary tools.

9:14 p.m. – A man appearing to be intoxicated was reported to be stumbling and falling onto another vehicle as he attempted to enter his white Hyundai on Center Road.  He was last seen heading toward Diablo Boulevard. Responding officers located the man near Center Road and Novato Boulevard and arrested him on suspicion of DUI.
