Rash of Crimes Near Atherton Park & Ride, Rush Creek

The following information from Jan. 16-17 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Jan. 16

7:53 a.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported at the Hill Education Center on Diablo Avenue.  

8:45 a.m. – A theft was reported at a commercial property in the 300 block of Ignacio Boulevard.  A copper downspout was taken.  Loss was about $500.

9:30 a.m. – A stolen vehicle was reported in the 800 block of Atherton Avenue.  A white ’97 Ford pickup truck with an extended cab and a brown toolbox in the bed was taken while the driver had gone for a walk on a nearby trail. 

10:25 a.m. – A burglary was reported at the Target store on Vintage Way.  The reporting party said that they have video surveillance of two people coming into the store and stealing electronics on four occasions. There is also information about a vehicle that is possibly linked to the incidents. 

2:48 p.m. – Vandalism was reported on Binford Road. The reporting party’s black Range Rover was found with a smashed window. There is no other loss reported at this time, however a second vehicle in the vicinity also has a smashed window as well. 

3:06 p.m. – A silver Honda Civic was reported burglarized in the vicinity of Atherton Avenue and Binford Road. 

4:40 p.m. – A man wearing camouflage pants was seen with a rifle stock sticking out of a duffel bag that he was carrying in the vicinity of Vineyard Road.   He was described by the reporting party as a white man in his 20s.  He was also wearing a blue baseball hat.  He was last seen headed toward Sutro Avenue.  The person was identified as a juvenile and his mother was notified at work about her son’s handling and transport of air-soft guns. 

5:44 p.m. – A theft was reported in the vicinity of the Redwood Credit Union on Grant Avenue.  A reporting party said that a woman had opened her car door and stole her laptop and then drove away in a red Honda toward Elm Avenue.  She described the woman as Hispanic, about 25 years old, and wearing a black T-shirt and jeans.  

6:07 p.m. – Vandalism was reported in the vicinity of the Novato Library on Novato Boulevard.  Four people had been seen in front of the library, and one had smashed a nearby light fixture.  They were last seen eastbound on Novato Boulevard.  The reporting party described one as a black man wearing a red sweatshirt and a white hoodie.  He was also walking a dog.  The second was described as a black man not wearing a hoodie and the one who had damaged the light fixture.  Other details were provided later. 

Jan. 17 

6:57 a.m. – A stolen vehicle was reported in the 1300 block of Leafwood Drive.  Unknown(s) stole a green Honda Civic off the street sometime overnight. 

9:23 a.m. – Vandalism was reported on Dogwood Court.  The back of a mailbox was discovered pried open.  The reporting party was not a victim but was told about the incident by a neighbor.  It is unknown at this time if there was any loss. 

10:32 a.m. – A fraud in progress was reported at the Target store on Vintage Way.  A woman was making individual high dollar purchases with a fraudulent gift card.  Numerous unauthorized purchases were made. for a full story on this incident.

11:04 a.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the 1100 block of Grant Avenue.  Unknown(s) used a black permanent ink marker to write miscellaneous Spanish words on a FedEx box.  There was no merit to gang-related graffiti. 

11:44 a.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 900 block of Grant Avenue.  The rear wall of the theater was marked with three different taggings.  It appears that the tags occurred in separate incidents. 

6:04 p.m. – A confrontation was reported at “the pit” off of the 1700 block of Novato Boulevard.  One was arrested for public drunkenness. 

11:46 p.m. – A stolen vehicle was reported in the 1300 block of Leafwood Drive.  Unknown(s) stole a Honda Accord over night.
