Who is Really Who? Rash of Fraudulent Identity Reports

The following information from Oct. 9-10 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner

3:45 p.m., Oct. 9 — Someone who claimed to a lawyer representing a woman's soon-to-be ex-husband was not listed on the state bar's website as a practicing attorney. Advice was given.

10:31 a.m., Oct. 10 — A man on Laurelwood Drive reported that an unknown person used his credit card in China. A fraud report was taken.

12:25 p.m., Oct. 10 — A resident of Susan Way reported that a loan was taken out by an unknown person using the reporting party's name. The estimated loss is $700. An identity theft case was taken.

8:41 a.m. — A minor-injury collision was reported in on the Olive Avenue side of Olive Elementary School. Three cars were involved.

8:42 a.m. — An alarm went off at Redwood Credit Union on Grant Avenue. The manager said he forgot the ATM service crew was coming to make repairs and the alarm remained set.

9:21 a.m. — A roommate was seen stealing money out of another person's wallet at a facility on Green Oak Drive. Both suspect and victim are developmentally disabled, and the staff said it would handle the incident.

9:24 a.m. — A student was arrested at the Hill Educational Center on Diablo Avenue as an arson suspect.

11:04 a.m. — An overdose of pills was reported on Carmel Drive. The subject was taken to Novato Community Hospital for a medical check and then transported to Marin General's psychiatric ward.

3:35 p.m. — A noninjury collision was reported at Grant and Machin avenues.

3:48 p.m. — A juvenile was cited and released after being caught taking two bottles of Smirnoff Ice alcoholic drink from a business in the 150 block of San Marin Drive.

4:57 p.m. — A man's ex-girlfriend made suicidal threats at a residence on Kristy Court. The woman told an officer she texted her ex-boyfriend "to get back at him and make him feel bad."

9:38 p.m. — A loud explosion was heard on San Carlos Way. Burn marks were found from apparent fireworks. Unable to locate any suspects.

Oct. 10

6:55 a.m. — A black Corvette backed into another car in a parking lot on Entrada Drive and no note was left. A report was filed for a hit-and-run misdemeanor.

8:46 a.m. — A man unknown to the area on Cortez Circle approached a 12-year-old boy on his way home from school on a recent day and was aggressive as he asked the boy questions. The man only asked if a parent was home. The reporting party might have just been a solicitor.

3:36 p.m. — A possible assault was reported at San Jose Middle School. The reporting party's son, age 13, was back-handed by the suspect who then threatened to stab him.

5:43 p.m. — A mother and teenage son got into an argument on Holstrom Circle over his suspension from school.

7:15 p.m. — A son was reported throwing items around a house on Kelly Court as he looked for a bottle of medicine. The mother requested officer assistance. Advice was given.

10:22 p.m. — A solo motorcycle crash was reported at Bel Marin Keys at Nave Drive. The rider had complaints of pain and a small abrasion.
