A white man dressed in all black — that’s who the Novato police are looking for as a suspect in a Thursday afternoon bank robbery.
The Westamerica Bank branch in Ignacio was robbed of an undisclosed amount at 3:51 p.m. and the suspect fled on foot, said Sgt. Mike Howard.
No one was hurt and no weapon was used, Howard said.
Officers searched but were unable to track down the man who approached a teller and demanded money at the branch, located at 300 Ignacio Blvd. a few steps west of Highway 101.
The man was white, in his 30s, about 5-foot-6 to 5-8 tall and between 160 and 180 pounds, police said. He was wearing a black sweatshirt, black cargo pants, black sunglasses, a black beanie cap and dark shoes.
Banks in the Hamilton and Ignacio area are a favorite target among thiefs, possibly because of the quick access to the highway. The Bank of Marin branch in Ignacio, the Wells Fargo at Hamilton Marketplace and the US Bank inside the Hamilton Safeway have all been robbed in the past year. The downtown Novato branch of Westamerica was robbed in June 2012.
Anyone with information about Thursday's incident is asked to call police at 897-4361 or leave a tip at 1-800-848-0101.
