Hungry Vultures Arouse Concern

The following information from Feb. 15-19 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner: 

Feb 17, 3:45 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 1700 block of Novato Boulevard.  The reporting party said that there were six or seven vultures on the roof of a house in the area.  The reporting party was concerned that there might be someone deceased in the residence.  Officer(s) found that the vultures turned out to be eating what was left of a deer carcass in the front yard of the house.  The residence and a barn were checked but all appeared to be fine.

Feb. 15 (Wed.)

12:41 a.m. – A driver was arrested and booked for driving under the influence and other charges in the vicinity of Highway 101 and De Long Avenue.

9:44 a.m. – A burglary was reported on Jade Court.  Unknown(s) entered a woman’s locked vehicle and a GPS and a set of keys were taken. 

10:35 a.m. – A fraud was reported in the 100 block of Sandpiper Court.  A woman who had been working with a company to get a credit card processing machine has found that the company is now withdrawing funds from her bank account.  The company has changed phone numbers and has forged a document in the transaction. 

4:37 p.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 2000 block of Novato Boulevard.  Windows were broken out of the bus stop shelter next to the Shell station.  Golden Gate Transit was contacted who said there was no merit to the claim.  The Plexiglas was removed is to be replaced as part of ongoing maintenance. 

8:45 p.m. – A woman in the 2000 block of Feliz Road reported that her daughter was out of control and arguing with family members.  She was arrested and booked for being drunk in public. 

Feb. 16 (Thurs.)

7:32 a.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 500 block of Alameda Del Prado.  A victim’s vehicle was painted with white spray paint and had its tires slashed overnight.  The reporting party believes the incident was retaliatory and has possible suspect information.  The damage is estimated at $1000. 

8:14 a.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 500 block of Alameda Del Prado.  A victim’s vehicle had its passenger side windows and rear window smashed.  Nothing was lost from inside the vehicle.  The damage is estimated at $300. 

9:32 a.m. – Health and safety violations were reported at the Days Inn on Redwood Boulevard.  A woman was booked into Marin County Jail for possession of a controlled substance.

1:52 p.m. – Shoplifting was reported at the Grocery Outlet on South Novato Boulevard.  The reporting party said that a tall and thin white male about 18 years old stole a can of beer.  He was last seen wearing a blue baseball hat and a leather coat.  He had long blonde hair and was carrying a skateboard. 

5:03 p.m. – Two men were reported in the creek in the vicinity of Joan Avenue.  The reporting party said that both men were possibly drunk and one had fallen onto a sandbar in the creek.  The reporting party described the men as about 40 years old.  One was wearing a blue shirt and the other a black shirt.  One was arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail on four bench warrants. 

5:35 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the parking lot of the Hamilton Marketplace on Nave Drive.  The reporting party said that a man broke into a vehicle in the parking lot by smashing the rear window.  He then reached in and grabbed a purse from the rear seat and then jumped into a waiting newer model black Acura or BMW. The reporting party described the man as black, about 28 to 32 years old, average build, and dressed all in black.  There were three other occupants in the waiting vehicle.  They fled the area and were last seen heading north towards the Ignacio overpass. 

8:09 p.m. – A vehicle was reported to have hit a house in the 1800 block of Novato Boulevard.  One was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail for driving under the influence.  

9:43 p.m. – Extra patrols were requested in the vicinity of Palmer Drive after a bamboo bench and a copper sculpture were taken from a residence. 

11:06 p.m. – A temporary restraining order violation was reported in the 1200 block of Redwood Boulevard.  A man came into the reporting party’s residence and tried to take the reporting party’s purse.  When the reporting party grabbed it back the man pushed her and took her laptop.  He was booked into Marin County Jail for domestic violence and violating a court order. 

Feb. 17 (Fri.)

10:13 a.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 1100 block of Midway Court.  Unknown(s) stole a victim’s coin collection from his residence.  The victim believes it was a former roommate or a family member that was responsible for the theft.  The theft occurred sometime within the last three months. 

6:29 p.m. – A petty theft was reported at the Safeway store on Diablo Avenue.  A woman shopper had her purse stolen out of a shopping cart.  The loss was a credit card, a checkbook and twenty dollars in cash.  The manager’s office is retrieving video surveillance. 

9:13 p.m. – Extra patrols were requested in the vicinity of Galli Drive.  The requesting party said there has been suspicious activity in the area during evening hours. 

11:49 p.m. – A physical fight between two to four men was reported at DeBorba’s Cocktail Lounge on Grant Avenue.  Officer(s) contacted one man with an injured lip.  He said he was not in a fight contrary to the bartender’s statement.  The man was the only one on scene.  The other persons involved were unknown and had fled the area prior to the arrival of PD. 

Feb. 18 (Sat.)

9:02 a.m. – A petty theft was reported in the 100 block of Alameda Del Prado.  People were seen jumping a fence and stealing metal from recycling bins.  

10:27 a.m. – A homeless encampment was reported by a resident in the vicinity of Redwood Boulevard and San Marin Drive.  The encampment was said to be behind the San Marin Valley complex.  The reporting party said she could hear a woman talking though the encampment cannot be seen from street level.  Officer(s) contacted two people at the top of a hill who had a tent set up.  They were advised that they were not allowed to camp at the site.  The two said they were packing up their things and were leaving today. 

12:03 p.m. – A reporting party said she had located her stolen vehicle on Sunset Parkway.  She picked up the vehicle and took it to her nearby residence.  

12:10 p.m. – A driver pulled over for vehicle violations in the vicinity of Escallonia Drive and Redwood Boulevard was cited for driving with a suspended driver’s license and displaying false or fraudulent tags.  The driver’s vehicle was also impounded for 30 days. 

12:43 p.m. – Employees at the Humane Society on Bel Marin Keys Boulevard requested a welfare check for a person behind a gate that was screaming at them.  A woman was contacted in the area and advised of the complaint.  She was identified and released. 

1:11 p.m. – A man was reported intoxicated in the 1600 block of Grant Avenue.  He had driven to the Bank of America in an unknown vehicle.  He was taken into custody for public drunkenness. 

1:38 p.m. – A suspicious vehicle was reported in the vicinity of Hamilton Parkway and Nave Drive.  A white 80’s Volvo was parked in the bushes off the service road along the railroad tracks.  A woman was contacted there who was living out of her vehicle.  She was identified and moved along. 

7:12 p.m. – A woman in the 800 block of Tamalpais Avenue who had called to report that her son was intoxicated says she cannot breathe.  She says she may be having an asthma attack.  The woman’s brother was fighting with the woman and her mother.  The man was arrested and booked for public drunkenness. 

9:30 p.m. – An aggravated assault was reported in the 800 block of Reichert Avenue.  The reporting party said he and his wife were in an argument and that his wife went off on him and hit him. He was booked into Marin County Jail for battery on a spouse.  The victim refused an emergency protection order. 

10:39 p.m. – A welfare check was requested for a woman on Hutchins Way who had two children present and multiple people smoking marijuana at her home.  Another woman at the woman’s residence was seen vomiting outside.  The woman was contacted and advised that marijuana should not be smoked in the proximity of children.  The children were asleep and in good health at the time. 

Feb. 19 (Sun.)

12:03 p.m. – A hit and run misdemeanor was reported in the rear parking lot of the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center on Vintage Way.  An unknown left a note on a bright blue 2005 Tacoma, which said “you’re an idiot.”  The victim’s vehicle was hit yesterday. 

1:35 p.m. – Homeless people were reported yelling and screaming in the 200 block of Ignacio Boulevard.  A woman was contacted who said that she was screaming at herself.  She said that she was off of her meds. 

1:41 p.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 200 block of Entrada Drive.  A motel maintenance worker said that a camera and medications were stolen from his vehicle.  The victim said that he suspects three black kids that had been in the area.  No suspects could be located but some property was found and returned to the victim. 

2:33 p.m. – A juvenile disturbance was reported in the 6000 block of Redwood Boulevard.  Three black kids, described as middle school age, were reportedly throwing rocks at an elderly white man with a beard wearing a backpack.  The reporting party works for a school and recognized the kids and provided their names.  The kids were contacted who all provided false names and information.  One of the kid’s mothers was contacted and advised of the incident.  The kids were reportedly attending San Jose Middle School

3:36 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported in the vicinity of First Street and Grant Avenue.  A man and a woman were seen slapping each other.  The man was described as a tall and thin white man wearing a baseball hat and a hooded sweatshirt. The woman was described as white, heavy set with blonde hair in a ponytail.  The reporting party flagged an officer down but the two could not be located. 

4:54 p.m. – A person in the 300 block of Enfrente Road was booked into Marin County Jail for possession of a controlled substance.  A complaint was also requested on a probation violation. 

6:07 p.m. – An 11 year old boy reported that a drunk 30 year old white man had pushed him to the ground and threatened him near a liquor store in the vicinity of Entrada Drive and Ignacio Boulevard.  The boy was not injured.  The mother of the boy was contacted and did not want to press charges against the man but asked that the boy be taken to a family members house. 

7:03 p.m. – An assault with a deadly weapon was reported in the 7200 block of Redwood Boulevard.  A group of three men came into the victim’s apartment and stabbed him three times in the leg.  The group left in a black Acura.  The investigation is ongoing. 

8:04 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the vicinity of Illes Court.  A reporting party heard a loud noise like an explosion.  Officer(s) spoke to several residents who said that the noise sounded like it came from a distance.  No one could determine from which direction the sound came. 

11:08 p.m. – A reporting party said that a white man and a black woman wearing a red hood broke a car window on the street.  They were last seen heading towards Ignacio Boulevard.  The reporting party said they also threw and hit him with a whiskey bottle.  Three juveniles were arrested for drunk in public and resisting arrest.  Two were booked into Marin County Jail and one was released to a parent.
