Vehicle Careens Through Novato Yards

Young driver likely to face hit-and-run charges for leaving scene after mowing down fences and other yard items, police say.

A vehicle plowed through several Novato yards early Tuesday morning, taking out a few fences before the driver took off down the road, police said.

A 17-year-old boy was later tracked down at his home and suspected of hit-and-run and possibly vandalism, according to Novato police.

Lt. John McCarthy said the driver is not suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but "it could have been inattention or speed" that caused the crash and damage.

McCarthy said the young man panicked and then decided to leave the crash site. "He admitted to it," he said. "It will get weeded out in the courts."

There was no monetary value set to the amount of damage the driver caused.
