US Bank at Hamilton Marketplace Robbed

Teller inside Safeway store said she saw no evidence of a weapon used; suspect is black man in his 20s.

The inside the at Hamilton Marketplace was robbed Wednesday afternoon, and the bank is offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect, said.

Sgt. Mike Howard said a slightly built black man estimated to be in his 20s approached a teller at 2:11 p.m. and said he had a weapon as he demanded money. He fled the bank at 5720 Nave Drive after being given an undisclosed amount of cash, Howard said.

The teller told detectives that no weapon was used or seen by the suspect, who had a goatee beard and a mustache. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a gray design on the front, dark baggy pants and a baseball cap with an unknown emblem, Howard said.

Anybody with information about the incident is asked to call the Novato Police Department at 897-1122 or 1-800-848-0101.

Novato sure isn't what it used to be 11 yrs ago when we moved here! Not so sure it's a place I want to raise my kids in anymore. People have really changed, new unsavory people have moved here, unfortunately.

The result of affordable housing. Want to find the perp? Try Hamilton or Wyndham.

Unfortunately, you're probably right. I feel bad for all the good people who have extremely low incomes. These low lives just give them all a bad name.

Has there EVER been a bank robbery in Novato where the suspect has been caught?
VA Man October 13, 2011 at 02:10 AM
Seriously...wake up Novato....it is now 6:50 on Wed Oct 12. For all of you with your head in the sand, drive by the Wyn. Apt complex...there are 4 police units with perps on the curb. you all tell me there is not a gang problem there!

Affordable housing is ruing America. It used to be that if you wanted to live in Marin, you had to be able to afford it. Now any Crip or Blood can just waltz right in and move next door. Thanks Libs! Vote out all these bums.

Low-income housing is definitely a problem that contributes to crime rates. Earlier in my life, I had to live in lower income regions and I have personally observed the correlation of lower income to higher crime (especially property and violent crimes). I can also tell you when I was living in lower income areas, I wished more than anything that people would stop denying higher crime rates and provide more police patrols to keep the good poor people safe from the criminals. It’s bad enough that poor people have to worry about money for food and rent; do they also need to be forced to worry about their basic safety simply because some people believe that it is “compassionate” to deny realities? In my opinion, it is much more compassionate to protect the innocent and provide extra police patrols than it is to allow criminals to run free. Novato definitely does not have enough police protection for its citizens. One side note on low-income housing: who is creating the jobs for the all of the low-income people who will be moving to the area? The proper sequence of events is: create jobs first, and then provide housing. Without jobs for the influx of low-income people that the affordable housing will bring, how will these people ever get out of the poverty cycle? Please empower instead of enable.

I urge you to drive around and really take a look at some of the EXTREME low income neighborhoods of Novato.Drive by slowly and really look around. One thing I notice is during the morning hours it's mostly quiet, in the evening is when it livens up. They are rearing and ready to go out and Raise Some Hell at night. Most sleep during the day while you and I are at work so our earnigs can be taxed to support these BUMS. The criminals need to be weeded out so that those in need of help can live without fear. No new ABAG housing....I say we evict the bad and we will have more than plenty of existing lowincome housing to go around for those truely in need. ABAG and SUNN = Biggest $$$ Scamers. Don't let them fool you with their words, it's all about their actions!

This is just the start. Here it comes. As one sunn member stated "wake up Novato" Well we as a community did just that! 99% of Novato are awake and ready to roll up our sleeves and keep the high density crime out of our town. Thanks again for the WAKE UP CALL! A great new voice to replace (Ho Hum shove it down their neck council) members, will be Leslie Peterson Schwartz.

Three years ago, I warned the city council about rising crime. They sat in stoney silence. I predicted gunfire in the streets. 1-3-11, we had a double attempted murder right in front of that Safeway. Later this year, we had car passengers exchanging gunfire that penetrated private homes on Elm Drive. NPD arrested 5 illegal aliens on Sunset Parkway with two shotguns, a machete, a baseball bat and illegal drugs. 4 of the 5 pleaded guilty, so that is an established fact. Since Novato has been labelled as a sanctuary city, it has become an open fire zone for all sorts of criminals. While I was speaking of these crimes at the League of Women Voters forum, the other candidates were rolling their eyes. Who has to get killed for the city and the city council to acknowledge that we have a growing crime problem. The police chief is still hunting for that elusive "Caucasian motorcycle gang", because he is politically correctly barred from chasing illegal alien gang members. www.ElectJerome.com Take Back Government, or suffer the consequences. Tell your friends and neighbors. We need informed voters at the polls next month.

Low income. high density, welfare/felon housing management that fails to provide safe and law abiding residences must have their tax exempt status revoked, so they they can pay for all of the police and public services that their mismanagement consumes. To my knowledge, I am the only candidate that has a printed, published Platform with this included. You can hold me to what I have written. The other politicians have written nothing, so what do you have to hold them to? www.ElectJerome.com Tell your friends and neighbors. We need an informed electorate, not blind mice voting for incumbents.

Dexter, welcome to the Tell-It-Like-It-Is Club. Tell your friends and neighbors, before it is too late. Take back your city, your home.

I have been ranting at the council for three years about increasing crime AND how to reverse it. Read www.ElectJerome.com. Get your neighbors involved. I am the city council speaker who has accused the council of shoving Sacramento leftist quotas and dictates down our throats! I have the copyright on that phrase!
Kevin Matthews October 17, 2011 at 08:53 PM
I'd be pretty amazed if this guy ended up actually being from Novato.
Jerome J Ghigliotti Jr October 26, 2011 at 09:37 PM
I have been accused of being a "racist", in this column, I wrote a Letter to the Editor of Novato Patch clarifying my position on race, and the editor declined to print it. The editor wrote: "We'd like our site to be the forum for civil discussion and productive changes of ideas." Out of respect for the First Amendment rights of Freedom of Press, I am not going to try to sneak that letter into comments, However, I have to reiterate the recent court argument of Michael Richards that only Caucasians can be called "racists". Racist acts and words by non-Caucasians are immune. Why?
humberto r February 21, 2012 at 04:22 AM
No way
Jerome J Ghigliotti Jr February 21, 2012 at 04:25 AM
I received a copy of a post by humberto who accused me of being a racist. The post may have been removed because it did accuse me of being a racist, but I do not object to humberto voicing his opinion. Humberto's criticism is incorrect because I do not "hate" Latinos. I have acknowledged that there are ten of millions of honest, hard working Latinos who make positive contributions to America. I DO object to illegal aliens, from which ever country they come; and in particular, I object to illegal alien crime and drug gangs. It does just so happen that all six Novato illegal alien drug gangs are Latinos, and they should all be returned to their country of origin so as to be a burden and a detriment there instead of here. Humberto, read before you criticize. And using the "race" card indicates that you have no legitimate argument against my positions. Do you really want to associate yourself with Orenthal James Simpson, who is now in prison where he belongs?
