Two Reports of Shots Heard an Hour Apart

The following information from June 16–19 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner:

June 189:51 p.m. – Four gunshots were reportedly heard in the 1000 block of Sixth Avenue.  An extensive area check was completed and no victims or evidence of shots fired could be found. 

June 18, 10:29 p.m. – Gun shots were reportedly heard in the 300 block of Country Club Drive.  The area was checked and nothing was located.

June 16 

2:25 a.m. – A resident in the 600 block of Rowland Boulevard was cited for disturbing the peace after complaints of loud music were received from neighbors.

9:45 a.m. – A citizen reported finding a handgun behind a residence in the vicinity of Sotelo Way.  The reporting party placed the weapon in a bucket and left it behind a fence so that Novato PD could take possession of it.  The weapon turned out to be a black Beretta pellet gun, not a firearm.  It was taken for destruction. 

11:58 a.m. – A man was reported to be hitting a woman who then threw her up against a fence in the vicinity of Center Road and Diablo Avenue.  The two were identified and statements were taken about a family disturbance. 

1:48 p.m. – Someone reported a continuing road rage incident the vicinity of Fairway Drive and St. Andrews Drive.  Both parties had got out of their vehicles and were on a hiking trail at the end of Fairway Drive.  The verbal incident was abated. 

3:52 p.m. – A man in a running parked truck near U Save Liquor on South Novato Boulevard was reported to be drunk.  He was transported to Marin County Jail. 

8:38 p.m. – A welfare check was conducted at a residence on Muroc Lake Drive.  A male was heard telling someone to call the police.  Advice was given regarding disobedient children. 

9:04 p.m. – A staff member reported that a client who had been drinking had just assaulted another client in the 1300 block of Seventh Street.  One was cited for a violation of probation.  Neither party wished to press charges for assault.  Advice was provided to staff. 

June 17 

1:12 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported at Safeway on Diablo Avenue after a man who had stolen a bottle of alcohol earlier in the evening had returned.  Security had stopped the man prior to exiting the store.  The man was identified and was told not to return to the store in the future.  Advice was provided. 

2:35 a.m. – A warrant arrest was made on Novato Boulevard and the person was booked into Marin County Jail.

3:36 p.m. – A petty theft was reported at Round Table Pizza after it had been discovered that a change machine for video games was missing over $700 in coins.  It is possible unknown(s) accessed the machine with a key. 

5:21 p.m. – A 3 or 4 year old child was spotted walking alone around Scottsdale Pond.  The reporting party walked with the child to the apartment the child ran away from.  The child had gotten out of the house to play.  The parents had been concerned and admonished the child. 

6:08 p.m. – A woman sitting in a white Jeep in the vicinity of Trader Joe’s was reported to have been drinking.  The reporting party made contact with the woman who said that her husband was behind the vehicle.  No one was near the vehicle.  The woman was arrested for driving under the influence. 

6:14 p.m. – A person on Sun Lane requested that a threat be documented that  appeared in a blog on a Patch website.  The entry refers to Jihad.  The reporting party believes it to be a threat against his life.  The threat is under investigation. 

7 p.m. – A man in a verbal argument with his wife reported that she is doing things to try to get him to hit her.  He said he doesn’t want to go to jail.  The woman was arrested for domestic battery. 

7:07 p.m. – An outstanding warrant arrest was made in the vicinity of Center Road and Plaza Amapola.   

7:45 p.m. – A resident reported that kids were starting a fire up on the hill in the vicinity of Woodleaf Court.  Flames could be seen in an open space field. Police  assisted Novato Fire District in locating a small area where grass had been gathered and burned.  The culprits were not located. 

7:55 p.m. – Shoplifting was reported at Whole Foods on De Long Avenue after a person took a $7.65 burrito without making any attempt to pay for it.  The person exited the store and was detained by security.  He was cited and released for shoplifting. 

June 18 

4:13 a.m. – A man reported that his girlfriend was hitting him.  He declined medical attention.  An emergency protection order was issued and she was booked for corporal injury on a spouse, assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment. 

11 p.m. – Vandalism was reported on Oak Crest Court after a victim found four windows of her BMW smashed.  The victim suspected her boyfriend might have been involved.  She refused to make a report.  

12:15 p.m. – Unknown(s) entered a victim’s unlocked vehicle on Oak Crest Court and removed property.  A handbag was found with items strewn about in the bushes around the corner from the victim’s residence.  All losses appear to be recovered. 

4:29 p.m. – A girl was cited for assault and battery in the 1500 block of Grant Avenue and was released to her mother. 

7:10 p.m. – A man was arrested and booked for driving with a suspended license and an outstanding felony warrant in the vicinity of Cambridge Heights and Sunset Court. 

10:26 p.m. – A man with a black handgun was reported in the 1800 block of Kaehler Street.  An extensive area check was completed with negative results.  A case was taken for documenting criminal threats and brandishing a weapon. 

June 19 

12:33 a.m. – A person was booked for domestic violence in the 100 block of Ignacio Boulevard. 

2:49 a.m. – A burglary was reported at the Marin Christian Academy on South Novato Boulevard.  Unknown(s) entered through a rear window.  Loss is unknown at this time.  Several security cameras were damaged. Estimated damage is $1,000. 

2:53 a.m. – An assault with a deadly weapon was reported on Bolling Drive.  A person was stabbed and a person was reported bleeding.  A case was taken for  attempted murder. 

9:57 a.m. – A man was reported to have thrown a woman to the ground in the 700 block of Olive Avenue.  The man was booked into Marin County Jail for spousal battery. 

5:24 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the 600 block of Logan Street.  A victim’s white GMC step van was tagged with black spray paint.  The reporting party believes it is gang related.
