Two Novato Men Arrested After Shoplifting Accusation
The altercation turns violent as Lucky's employees nab two suspected thieves.
Two Novato men apparently with the intention of partying with vodka and soda were arrested Thursday afternoon after being stopped by Lucky’s employees.
At around 4:30 p.m., Novato residents Carl Curry, 19, and Joseph Thompson, 21, were approached by the grocery store’s loss prevention officers. The employees wanted to question the suspects about walking out of the 1761 Grant Ave. grocery store without paying for items.
According to Novato Police, when the loss prevention officers confronted the two individuals, they became uncooperative. Both Curry and Thompson became violent and assaulted one of the loss prevention officers causing minor injuries.

After the investigation, probable cause was developed to show that Thompson committed robbery and Curry committed battery, burglary and vandalism, Collins said. Curry, a cashier, and Thompson, unemployed, were booked into the Marin County Jail. They each face a felony charge and Curry has two additional misdemeanors. Curry’s bail was set at $15,000; Thompson’s was set at $75,000.
