Transformer Fire Cuts Power in Partridge Knolls

Novato neighborhood loses juice Thursday afternoon with small underground fire.

An underground electrical transformer blew in Novato's Partridge Knolls neighborhood Thursday afternoon, prompting a power outage that messed up the dinner hour and no doubt prompted a few families to fire up their barbecues or dial up some takeout.

Mario Bernardini, acting captain with the , said firefighters doused the transformer outside of 103 Partridge Knolls, near the end of Simmons Lane, and wet down the surrounding vegetation.

The fire crew stayed until a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. technician showed up to turn off the power. According to the PG&E website, up to 75 customers were affected and the estimated power restoration time was 7:15 p.m.
