Thieves Target Local Churches

The following information from July 29-Aug. 1 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner: 

July 29, 4:23 p.m. – A burglary was reported at Our Lady of Loretto church in the 1800 block of Novato Boulevard.  The reporting party said that a man and a woman were seen taking money out of a candle offering area.  The man was described as white, with very short hair, about 5-foot-10 and 250 pounds.  The woman was described as white, in her 40s, about 5-8 and 200 pounds with long dark hair.  They ran from the church.  Approximately $60 was taken from the pray station. 

July 31, 10:04 p.m. – Extra patrols were requested at St. Anthony of Padua’s church on Cambridge Street.  The reporting party said that a rummage sale is going on at the site and items have been taken over the past few nights.  The extra patrols were requested.

July 29 

1:18 a.m. – A fight was reported in the 200 block of Entrada Drive.  Eight people were reportedly in an altercation.  All parties had separated upon arrival of officer(s).  All parties stated that the conflict was verbal only.  Nothing further was requested of the PD.

9:34 a.m. – A burglary was reported at a business in the 300 block of Bel Marin Keys Boulevard.  Unknown(s) broke a lock to gain entry and stole merchandise.  Approximately $6,000 was lost in miscellaneous clothing items and cash taken from a register. 

10:56 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 7600 block of Redwood Boulevard.  The back window of an orange Dodge Challenger was smashed out and a camcorder was stolen. 

6:57 p.m. – Found property was reported on Sandy Creek Way.  A woman found a bag with 22 pieces of jewelry in her backyard and thinks it may have been stolen and tossed over her back fence. The investigation is continuing to determine if the jewelry is stolen property. 

8:33 p.m. – A welfare check was requested for a woman who was yelling profanities at herself and imaginary people near the bathrooms at Pioneer Park.  The reporting party described the woman as white, in her 50s, with blonde hair.  She was last seen wearing a dark jacket, a black shirt and jeans.  Officer(s) checked the park but the woman was gone on arrival and could not be located. 

8:54 p.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 400 block of Enfrente Road.  The reporting party said that his vehicle was parked in a carport and unknown(s) had taken tools from the bed of his truck.  The loss is approximately $1,000. 

11:56 p.m. – A verbal disturbance was reported at the Wyndover Apartments.  The reporting party said that a mother and daughter became physical and started throwing things around.  Officer(s) contacted a woman who said she “raised her voice” with her daughter and that the argument was verbal only. The woman was advised of the complaint. 

July 30 

1:40 a.m. – A single vehicle collision was reported on Bel Marin Keys Boulevard.  One was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence.  The vehicle was towed away. 

7:13 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 1400 block of Hamilton Parkway.  The reporting party said that unknown(s) had broken a window on a blue Ford pickup truck.  Nothing appears to have been taken. 

7:52 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 200 block of Alameda Del Prado.  The back window of a black Ford pickup truck was found smashed.  It is unknown what items may have been taken at this time. 

9:46 a.m. – A burglary was reported in the 500 block of Redwood Boulevard.  Unknown(s) entered the entered the victim’s locked vehicle and removed a stereo and damaged the dashboard. 

11:25 a.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 300 block of Enfrente Road.  Unknown(s) entered a locked patio area and rifled through a golf cart. 

11:32 a.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 300 block of Bel Marin Keys Boulevard.  The reporting party said that there were two bullet holes in their windows.  Officer(s) determined that the holes appeared to be from a high-powered pellet gun. 

11:58 a.m. – Unwanted persons were reported in the 200 block of Vintage Way.  The reporting party said that there were protestors outside the store puttying fliers all over the windows, blocking the entrance from customers, and complaining about the owner company not paying fairly.  Officer(s) contacted all parties and advised that the mall management be contacted regarding protest requirements on the property. 

1:27 p.m. – Vandalism was reported in the vicinity of Theresa Court and Center Road.  The reporting party said that unknown(s) had jammed nails into the front door knob, broke two vehicle windows with BBs, damaged a fence and pushed over a motorcycle. 

3:48 p.m. – A person with blonde hair wearing a black T-shirt and shorts was yelling at the reporting party from a carport.  One was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. 

4:49 p.m. – A burglary was reported at Arroyo Avichi Park.  Unknown(s) pried open the door to the Little League snack shack and removed audio equipment and other items from the inside. 

5:45 p.m. – Vandalism was reported at Arroyo Avichi Park.  Unknown(s) used an unknown device to pry locks to gain entry into a recycling bin.  Graffiti was also found inside the Little League port-a-potty. 

6 p.m. – Domestic violence was reported at America’s Best Value Inn in the 7600 block of Redwood Boulevard.  The reporting party said that his wife punched him in the face.  Both parties are in the parking lot.  One was booked for spousal abuse.  An emergency protection order was refused by the victim. 

7:03 p.m. – One was arrested on an outstanding warrant at America’s Best Value Inn in the 7600 block of Redwood Boulevard. 

8:34 p.m. – Shoplifting was reported at the Costco store on Vintage Way.  The woman is cooperative but does not have identification with her.  All merchandise was recovered.  The woman was cited and released for shoplifting. 

8:46 p.m. – A petty theft was reported on Enfrente Road.  The reporting party said that unknown(s) came and removed tools from his vehicle, which was parked in a carport.  The reporting party is concerned because this is the second night he has had tools taken from the bed of his truck.  The loss is a Stihl Brand weed whacker. 

9:14 p.m. – Shoplifting was reported at a business in the 100 block of Vintage Way.  The reporting party said two people were involved and described one as a white man, about 30 years old, skinny, with long brown hair. He was last seen wearing a “Flair World Tour” shirt and dark jeans.  The other person was described as a white woman in her 40s, with long black hair with red streaks.  She was last seen wearing black or dark clothing.  They left together in a red Volvo.  The license plate information was provided. 

9:20 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 1300 block of Joyce Street.  The reporting party believes the incident occurred between May and June.  The loss is jewelry and collectible coins. 

July 31 

2:27 a.m. – A welfare check was requested for a 50-year-old woman who was heard screaming and yelling at the Wyndover Apartments.  The reporting party contacted her and advised her to keep it down but the reporting party said that this just set her off again.  Officer(s) contacted the woman who said she was having a rough evening of nightmares but that she was OK.  She said she would keep the noise down. 

7:28 a.m. – A grand theft was reported on Cobblestone Court.  A Santa Cruz racing bike was stolen that was mounted and locked to the roof rack of the victim’s vehicle, which was parked in the driveway of his residence.  The bike was black with silver trim and valued at $10,000. 

9:10 a.m. – A fraud was reported on Garner Drive.  The reporting party said that she just found out that her cleaning lady has been taking check and cashing them. The loss is $2,700. 

11:19 a.m. – Threats were reported on Club View Drive.  A woman said that her son fraudulently took over $100,000 from her checking and credit accounts.  The son threatened to kill her in a voice message.  Adult Protective Services was notified and the investigation continues. 

11:24 a.m. – A fraud was reported at a business in the 900 block of Seventh Street.  A counterfeit $100 bill was received in a transaction.  The merchant has paperwork from the transaction.  The bill was collected and a report was forwarded to the Secret Service. 

2:52 p.m. – A fraud was reported on Posada Del Sol. Unknown(s) used the victim’s Visa access card for services at a hotel in South Africa.  The reporting party never lost his card. There was $25,000 in unauthorized charges. 

4:20 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported on Sun Lane.  A victim received documentation of an unsolicited loan against his property.  The reporting party said that his signature has been forged. 

8:34 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported on Novato Boulevard.  The victim says that she was struck in the eye with a phone.  The reporting party has no suspect information and is there alone.  Officer(s) contacted the woman who was very uncooperative.  She said that she “mouthed off to the wrong person” and refused to provide any further information. 

11:22 p.m. – A person was booked into Marin County Jail for suspicion of driving under the influence in the 700 block of McClay Road. 

Aug 1 

7:53 a.m. – A welfare check was requested for people hiking on a trail in the vicinity of Pamaron Way.  The reporting party could hear a woman yelling for help.  Some friends of the reporting party are on their way to the area in a black Toyota 4-Runner.  A man and wife were walking their dogs when the dogs got loose and chased after a coyote. All are fine. 

9:47 a.m. – An unwanted person was reported in the vicinity of Diablo Avenue and Redwood Boulevard.  A man was reported to be pacing up and down the aisles of a bus bothering female passengers.  He told the driver that he is off his meds.  Officer(s) set up a rendezvous with the bus and made contact with the man.  He said that he was upset and admitted to pacing back and forth on the bus.  He did not fit the criteria for a psychiatric hold.  He was advised not to disturb other passengers if he gets onto another bus. 

10:32 a.m. – Extra patrols were requested for the Fireman’s Fund campus based on frequent instances of finding juveniles on the property. 

11:27 a.m. – A theft was reported at a PG&E substation in the 100 block of Hamilton Drive.  Unknown(s) cut through a chain link fence, entered the property and stole copper wire.  

6:17 p.m. – Officer(s) assisted with a medical emergency hand in the vicinity of Somerset Place after a man in his 50s was reported to have been found laying off of a path with a beer in his hand. 

9 p.m. – A fraud was reported at a store in the 100 block of Vintage Way.  A man attempted to purchase items with a fake credit card.  The man had successfully used the credit card at a Santa Rosa store.  The reporting party described the man as black, about 30 years old, 5-foot-9, he was last seen wearing a dark colored long T-shirt, and dark jeans.  He was driving a red Ford with California plates.  The plate numbers were provided. 

9:28 p.m. – Two kids were reported to be looking very drunk and they were walking on Vallejo Avenue toward Redwood Boulevard.  One was booked on suspicion of being drunk in public.
