Suspect Arrested in Check Forgery Case

Bank employee helps police catch up with suspect in Costco parking lot.

A 43-year-old Richmond man was arrested Wednesday at the in Novato on suspicion of trying to pass a forged check, police said.

A bank employee called police at 1:58 p.m. to say somebody was inside the bank with a suspicious-looking check, according to Sgt. Eric Riddell. Arriving officers were met outside the bank at 251 Vintage Way by the employee, who said the suspect had fled on foot toward the nearby store, Riddell said.

Officers found a person matching the description in the parking lot and the bank employee made a positive identification.

Denmentus M. Mitchell was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail on six felony counts, including forgery, burglary and a state parole violation hold.
