Stings Net 2 Arrests for People Buying Alcohol for Minors

Compliance check by Novato police included young decoys trying to buy their own alcohol and cigarettes.

Two men were arrested Friday night by during an alcohol/tobacco enforcement operation in which underage decoys asked people to purchase alcohol for them, police said.

One of the stings took place outside of at 341 Enfrente Road in Ignacio; the other was outside at 1102 Grant Ave.

The two men, both 22, were issued notices to appear in court on charges of misdemeanor violations of furnishing alcohol to minors.

Officers visited 10 off-sale businesses with alcohol licenses and found 100 percent compliance as the decoys were refused alcohol purchases. The decoys attempted to purchase cigarettes at two retail outlets and both attempts resulted in no sales.

The decoys are volunteers under the age of 21 but appear under 18, according to police.
