Speed Appears Cause of Sunday Crash Near Stafford Lake

Passenger hurt when teen rolls sports car.

The California Highway Patrol said driver intoxication is not suspected as a factor in a single-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on Novato's west side, near , but excessive speed might be the cause.

Jordan Fort, 18, of Novato was westbound on Novato Boulevard about two miles west of the city limits when he lost control of his 2002 Mazda MX5, a two-seat sports car, at 4:50 p.m. Officer Eric Hohmeister of the CHP said Fort was driving about 60 mph in a 45 mph zone as he entered a turn near the entrance to Stafford Lake.

Fort overcorrected with the steering wheel and the car went off the north side of the road, hit a fence and rolled before landing on its tires on property owned by the Grossi Dairy, Hohmeister said.
