Sobriety Checkpoint Nets 0 DUI Arrests, But Tons of Unlicensed Driver Citations

A total of 1,824 drivers were screened during Friday's checkpoint in Novato.

No DUI arrests were made during a sobriety checkpoint held Friday night in Novato, but almost three dozen people were cited for driving without a license.

The checkpoint was held on Delong Avenue at Redwood Boulevard in Novato, where 1,824 drivers were screened, according to the Novato Police Department.

Of those screened, 16 field sobriety tests were performed, but no DUI arrests were made. There were also 32 unlicensed driver citations and four suspended drivers license citations. Ten vehicles were towed.

Driving on a suspended license in California can be expensive and time-consuming. A second offense within five years will get you a minimum penalty of $500 and a maximum fine of $2000. Jail time can be for 10 days up to one year.
