Recon, a former search & rescue dog for which a public fundraising effort had been launched last week, has died, according to the Marine Humane Society.
Recon, a yellow lab, was under observation at Bel Marin Animal Hospital in Novato and suffered from a fever and no appetite. His condition was described as serious before veterinarians discovered cancer, Marin Humane Society spokeswoman Carrie Harrington said. He died Friday.
Recon was a lifelong work parnter of Marin County Fire Captain Jim Boggeri, who completed his training with Recon in 2001. They became one of the most elite search duos in the country and worked at disasters ranging from Hurricane Katrina to major mudslides.
