Resident Taken For Mental Health Evaluation After Small House Fire
Police said a brief standoff ensued Friday evening when they tried to get the subject to come outside.
A resident of the 2500 block of Center Road was taken for a mental health evaluation Friday evening after reports of a small fire in the home, according to Novato Police.
Novato Fire Protection District personnel and Novato Police were called to the home at 5:30 p.m. Friday on a report of a small fire inside the house that had already been extinguished, Sgt, Jim Tross said.
Family members told police that the occupant was "acting out and was possibly in need of a mental health evaluation," Tross said. The subject in the home was reluctant to come outside, but police were able to coerce the residents to come outside after approximately 90 minutes. The subject came out and was taken to psychiatric emergency services for evaluation, Tross said.
