Today is a Red Flag Warning day. The warning is issued by the National Weather Service when winds and fuel conditions (dry grass and brush) are extremely dry.

Currently the warning is for ridge tops over 1,000 feet. However, everyone is being asked to be aware of the very dry conditions.

Novato Fire Protection District Chief Mark urges caution. He says this is an unprecedented condition. “We haven't experienced anything like this going back 100 years in records like we are experiencing now,” Heine said.

Extreme caution should be exercised during red flag warnings. Those using machinery such as weed trimmers around dry grasses and brush should only operate them in the early mornings.
