Rash of Vehicle Break-ins Reported

From the Log Books of Novato PD. Selected calls from April 5-8

April 5

10:01 a.m. – A Novato High School student was reported to have been cutting himself and was in the school office.  The student was depressed but cooperative.  He was placed on a psychiatric hold for evaluation. 

12:32 p.m. – A verbal disturbance was reported at the Days Inn on Redwood Boulevard.  The reporting party stated that a male and a female tenant were in a heated argument and that they had two small juveniles in their room.  The male subject was throwing items out of the room and fled in a small white compact before officers arrived.  Subject may face a parole violation.

2:56 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported at the Wyndover Apartments.  The party reporting said two girls had been fighting.  Several juveniles were seen in the area.  Any victim(s) or suspect(s) had fled prior to officer(s) arrival. 

6:11 p.m. – A fraud was reported in the 1400 block of Donna Street.  A woman reported that she had received a call from an unknown subject who said her grandson was in jail for a DUI and that he needed $992 for bail.  She wired the money to Canada but has since found out that her grandson was never in jail.  A case of fraud via Western Union will continue to be investigated.

7:59 p.m. – A reporting party in the lobby of the Police Department on Machin Avenue stated that their 14-year-old daughter was texting unknown subjects and that she is upset with her parents for looking into her business.  All parties to the matter were in the lobby and provided advice. 

April 6 

10:46 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances that occurred over the weekend were reported by a resident on Dominic Drive.  The reporting party stated that a juvenile neighbor left his truck running in front of his residence.  The reporting party entered the juvenile’s truck and turned off the engine when the juvenile told him “I’ll shoot you dude if you touch my stuff.”   He said he was not fearful when the incident occurred but he wanted it documented.  Advice was given on a restraining order. 

1:59 p.m. – A reporting party at Novato High School had a student in the office in possession of marijuana.  Other students suspected of being under the influence were being gathered and brought to the office.  One juvenile was cited for possession of marijuana and released to the custody of the school. The student’s parents were contacted. 

2:26 p.m. – A subject at the Travelodge on Redwood Boulevard was booked into Marin County Jail for an outstanding warrant. 

6:14 p.m. – A suspect was held in custody at a store on Vintage Way for shoplifting.  The suspect was in possession of burglary tools and was cooperative.  He was cited for petty theft and released. 

9:05 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 400 block of Marin Oaks Drive.  The victim just got home and noticed all of his wife’s jewelry was missing from the house.  Contractors had been in the home earlier.  The victim tried to contact them earlier with no answer.  No sign of forced entry was found.  Total loss is approximately $4,220.

10:56 p.m. – A woman on Marion Court was reported to have been threatening to take a bottle of pills.  The subject was transported to Novato Community Hospital and admitted into the Intensive Care Unit. 

April 7 

12:56 a.m. – Three males dressed in dark clothing were reported to be checking door handles in the 400 block of Lea Drive.   The subjects were whistling back and forth after seeing the reporting party.  All were on foot.

10:33 a.m. – A San Marin High School student who reportedly pulled a fire alarm on Monday and then again on Wednesday was reported in route to school.  The juvenile was cited and released. 

11:46 a.m. – A theft was reported on the 1100 block of McClelland Drive.  Unknown suspect(s) accessed the victim’s unlocked vehicle and stole three guitars and an amplifier.  Estimated loss valued at $4,700. 

5:55 p.m. – Another theft was reported on the 1100 block of McClelland Drive.  Unknown suspects went through both of the victim’s vehicles and took a pair of sunglasses and a folding blade knife.  Loss is approximately $95. 

9:59 p.m. – A subject was booked for driving under the influence in the vicinity of First Street and Grant Street. 

April 8 

2:28 a.m. – A subject was arrested and booked for driving under the influence in the 300 block of Enfrente Road.  

3:03 a.m. – A reporting party saw a female slumped over in the front seat of her car on Washington Street.  The vehicle had been running for over an hour with its lights on.  The driver was booked for driving under the influence. 

9:25 a.m. – An assault and battery was reported at San Marin High School.  The incident occurred at 2 p.m. the previous day.  The victim had been struck in the eye.  A juvenile was cited and released. 

11:49 a.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported at the Buck Center.  A possible employee of the lab hacked into a supervisor's email and sent confidential email to another employee.  The reporting party believed a breach of confidential emails has occurred and was advised by Comcast to file a police report. 

3:11 p.m. – A burglary was reported on Rowland Way.  Unknown suspect(s) broke into the victim’s locked vehicle, pried the dashboard and stole the stereo.  Estimated loss and damages is $500. 

3:31 p.m. – A case of graffiti vandalism was reported on the 1300 block of Grant Avenue.  The rear wall of a building was tagged. 

6:29 p.m. – A petty theft was reported in the 600 block of Olive Avenue.  The victim’s unlocked Durango was rifled through early the previous day.  Reporting party was unable to report incident until today.  Loss was $600 cash and three personal checks already signed.  Total loss is $820.  Case is possibly related to similar case in the area reported yesterday.
