Power Outage Blackens Downtown Area

Nearly 1,400 customers lose electricity at 8:46 p.m. Wednesday; police and fire stations affected.

The power went out Wednesday night in parts of downtown Novato, and Pacific Gas & Electric crews had not announced the source of trouble as Thursday afternoon, a spokesman said.

Something went wrong at 8:46 p.m. when the lights when out to 1,385 customers in Old Town and other sectors of the downtown area, spokesman J.D. Guidi said.  As of 10 p.m., 340 customers were in the dark, he said. By about midnight, everybody was back online.

The on Machin Avenue and Station 61 on Redwood Boulevard both lost power and resorted to generators.

"We thought we'd get some calls but we didn't go anywhere," one firefighter said.
