Police Track Down Robbery Suspect Who Bolted

Commotion at Taco Bell and Lee Gerner Park culminates with arrest 45 minutes later of 18-year-old man.

An 18-year-old Novato man was jailed Tuesday and faces charges of robbery and resisting arrest following the report of a theft, police said.

Officers responded to the just off Seventh Street after receiving a call about a man who threatened to fight another person at , Sgt. Eric Riddell said. The person who called police told officers the subject threatened to "stick him" if he didn't fight and then reached into his pocket.

The theft victim, fearing the suspect had a weapon, started to walk away, but the suspect grabbed several items of clothing from the victim as well as other items, according to the police report.

When the theft victim bolted, the suspect chased him across Seventh Street toward the Taco Bell. Officers arrived and spotted the suspect, who then took off on foot.

Shawn Buckley, 18, was caught about 45 minutes later at his residence on Eighth Street. He admitted to the theft and was arrested at 2:30 p.m. Buckley, whose bail was set at $25,000, faces a felony robbery charge and a misdemeanor of resisting arrest.
