Police Search for Robbery, Assault Suspects

A 20-year-old Novato man was stabbed in front of his Hill Road apartment while two suspects tried to take his wallet.

Two suspects remained at large after they allegedly stabbed a Novato man during a robbery near Hill Road and Novato Boulevard late on the night of Jan. 25, police said.

The 20-year-old victim told police he saw two Hispanic males, estimated to be 16 to 18 and wearing dark clothing, inside his vehicle at the 1500 block of Hill Road at about 11:45 p.m. Friday.

The victim and his brother went outside to confront the subjects, but found the vehicle empty and ransacked. They noticed the suspects a distance away and, as they walked back to their apartment, the suspects, armed with knives and wearing masks, confronted the victim and his brother.

The victim’s brother ran to call 911 while the two suspects assaulted the victim and attempted to take his wallet. During the struggle, the victim was stabbed in the side and the hand. The suspects fled the scene on foot.

The victim was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Officers from and the Novato Police Department's Novato Response Team set up a perimeter and a canine team, but they didn’t find the suspects after searching the area for one hour.

Anyone with information about this incident can call the Novato Police Department at 897-4361.

I am trying to trust the police chief's statement in 2011 that crime has not increased over the last 15 years of the huge build up of AH in Novato. Maybe it is just the fuller reporting of crime via the Patch that makes it seem like crime is up. That is what I tell myself because I still want to walk the streets of our City at night and feel safe.

Dusgusting. Anchor babies of illegal immigrants?
Ventress Dugan January 27, 2013 at 09:55 pm
Lovely!! Middle of the day! And hey!! No crime in Novato!
Kirk Gillary January 28, 2013 at 02:21 am
The Hill View Apartments have housed many repeat offenders. A friend of mine said the apartment that he lived in was infested with rats and insects AND criminals.
Gram January 28, 2013 at 12:17 pm
Common knowledge, Kirk ! Are the powers that be here proud of this stuff?
Cindy January 28, 2013 at 12:28 pm
More low cost housing anyone? Build it and they will come.......we are going to need to double our police force.
A.M. Barnard January 28, 2013 at 12:45 pm
Edwin Edwards; Jack Abramoff; Bernie Madoff; Andrew Fastow; Duke Cunningham; Bernie Ebbers. These men are all Caucasian; and, they have stolen, extorted, cheated or otherwise defrauded the American people out of billions of dollars. Their crimes far exceed the ALLEGED smash and grab mentioned above. Yet, this thread has thus far been dominated by a discriminatory few who are engaged in an elitist attempt to create a sense of fear based on the phrase "two Hispanic men." Shame.
NovatoGuy January 28, 2013 at 03:04 pm
Two Hispanic males stabbed someone while trying to rip him off. Maybe when two hispanic males (anchor babies? Illegal immigrants?) stab and/or rob YOU, you will feel differently. It's always so f****** easy to sit there and spout offf the "racist" card when you are NOT the one who's just been robbed or stabbed. But in the end, as long as we put up with this and tolerate it, it will not only continue to happen, but get worse. Enjoy.
Ventress Dugan January 28, 2013 at 03:13 pm
All of the above mentioned caucasians went to jail, I doubt these two will be doing the same....also these are the types we, in Novato will more likely run into! I lived in New Orleans for 14 years, and yes was the victim of crime many times, not one of them was a swell from uptown New Orleans like Edwin Edwards!
Renee January 28, 2013 at 03:15 pm
@ Novato Guy,
you have no proof that these suspects are illegal!! quit making bigoted comments based on the fact they have been described as Hispanic. Mr. Barnard is right. "SHAME"
NovatoGuy January 28, 2013 at 03:21 pm
No, I have no proof, nor I do know. That is why I had a question mark (?) in my comment. Now are you going to tell me with all of the illegal immigrants and anchor babies of illegal immigrants that it very unlikely that they are? And asking the question is unreasonable? Yeah, you probably will. Here we go again, it's bigoted to even ask the question, even when it's highly likely, right? I really wonder if the politically correct folks would feel differently if/when they become crime victimes.

It's beyond me. Take a safe community like Novato, build low income housing, and then wreck it for those who have worked hard to live here. I think in the end, though, Novato HAS to do this, because the state requires it. I mean, who in their right mind wants gangbanging scum in NOVATO? We're talking MARIN COUNTY here...this was supposed to be the last bastion of a safe place to raise a family. Oh well....
Renee January 28, 2013 at 04:17 pm
I find it very interesting how nobody seems outraged about the man that has been robbing banks all over Marin. The fact that he has been described as "White" makes me wonder? It seems to be the trend on here with the same people, over and over
Steven Norwin January 28, 2013 at 04:31 pm
At least the Bank robber didn't stab anyone...Maybe that's why this story is more infurating, not to mention it's directly in our neighborhood streets in the middle of the day. Sheesh Renee...use your nugget.
Novato Native January 28, 2013 at 04:37 pm
Renee,
I think the outrage would be present if he was committing armed robberies. Giving a note to a teller asking for money, without any reference to imminent personal injury or having a weapon, is not as grievous as actually stabbing someone as is the case here. I'm not saying that robbing a bank isn't a bad thing, its just not as bad as stabbing someone for some money. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think in only one of the robberies he was suspected of brandishing a gun or some other sort of weapon.
Novato Native January 28, 2013 at 04:42 pm
I think it was slightly closer to the middle of the night, rather than the middle of the day. 11:45 pm.
Ventress Dugan January 28, 2013 at 04:54 pm
Novato Native: Thanks! I feel so much safer.
NovatoGuy January 28, 2013 at 05:18 pm
Yeah, the middle of the day, in a small town in front of low income housing. This is only going to get worse. But, I guess this is okay with the bleeding hearts. They'll start talking about how the assault weapon killers are whities.

Renee January 28, 2013 at 10:42 pm
there you have it, the same people on here making the same twisted justifications.
WOW

I live at Hill Valley and know both the victim and many of the residents of the complex. For context: Nowadays very little crime is experienced around here and even less involving residents. If things were worse in the past – as it has been suggested to me - it is thanks to a number of factors and people (including the police and probably a change of demographics too), that this is not typical now.
The street is a cul de sac, so there is very little through traffic and lots of woodland cover - a great place to come here to dump cars (used to happen) and a great place to disappear into the shadows after doing whatever one does (if that is what one wants to do). Although this was shockingly brazen, chances are fewer in my estimation that this would not have happened were the street location not so private and out of the way.

This was emailed to me by someone who attended. So many Bay Area Residents oppose Governments PlanRead More Bay Area.
Tina McMillan June 17, 2013 at 11:08 am
Susan thank you for posting this. Chris Pareja is an articulate speaker whose message needs to beRead More acknowledged. While community activists claim Plan Bay Area is the answer Chris uses their own statistics to point out how little is accomplished and the real hypocrisy behind advocates claims that it will provide "equity". Chris attended the Plan Bay Area Debate at the Civic Center and spoke there as well. Kinsey completely ignored his comments and kept repeating the party line: Plan Bay Area is the only answer we have so it is "good enough." Anyone who hasn't yet should take the time to watch the debate as it is a real eye opener. Kinsey's responses are quite disconcerting if he is being touted as the local expert on Plan Bay Area. I was shocked by how little he seems to understand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOE7Hyd5B40&feature=youtu.be

Karen: Are you going to be doing beginner classes? I didn't see any on the calendar but thoughtRead More maybe in the fall. I saw the "Hoffman's Cracker's" and thought how much fun it would be to learn with such beautiful fabric.

Hi Jim. Thanks for clarifying . Most of us assumed you were the new Novato Patch editor.
Jim Welte (Editor) June 17, 2013 at 10:55 am
Which is a fair assumption since my name and face are on it for now. Sorry for the confusion. In theRead More interim, I am more than happy to answer questions or address any concerns about the new design or our coverage of the community.
Tina McMillan June 17, 2013 at 01:03 pm
Jim What is the best way to reach you with questions and offers of help? If there is a way toRead More personalize each Patch to its community that would make a huge difference. Brent would post news articles as the primary focus. The comparison to a "penny saver" is the biggest problem with the new design. It does not favor news which is what many people are interested in. If San Rafael Patch is hosting the Plan Bay Area articles then doesn't it make sense to cross post them to Novato's front page too? Looking for news was never a problem with the old Patch, now finding the news in the middle of the garage sales, ads for businesses and announcements is where many people are stuck. It's unfortunate that Back Bay is the old design. It means corporate is throwing out what was the best of Patch. Is there anyone to write to, to suggest that the changes in format are not supportive of a online news source?
