Police: Novato Teen Tries to Stab Man Over Marijuana Dispute

By Bay City News Service:

Novato police said two men got into a physical fight about marijuana in a city parking lot Monday evening.

Pravin Kevin Lal, 18, of Novato, started fighting with a 19-year-old Petaluma man inside a car in the Downtown Center parking lot on Grant Avenue around 7 p.m., Sgt. Jay Demski said.

Both men got out of the victim's vehicle and continued fighting, and Lal tried to stab the Petaluma man with a kitchen knife, stole the victim's marijuana and fled, Demski said.

Police officers chased Lal and recovered the victim's marijuana. Lal was booked in the Marin County jail for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of stolen property, conspiracy and evading a police officer, Demski said.

Police are looking for a second suspect they believe conspired with Lal to steal the victim's marijuana, Demski said.

It wasn't immediately clear if the Petaluma man legally had for the marijuana, or if he would be facing charges, too.
