Police Make Arrest After Report of Man Walking Down Street with Gun

arrested a man early Saturday who matched a description of a person walking down Third Street near the downtown area with a firearm in his hand.

Sgt. Sophia Winters said officers contacted Joseph Gomez Jr., 18, at about 11:45 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of Third Street near Vallejo Avenue. He was in possession of 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a large amount of cash and drug paraphernalia, according to the police report. A Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun was found sitting on a table two feet from where Gomez was first contacted, Winters said.

The reporting party positively identified Gomez as the person seen walking down the street with the gun in his hand, and Gomez was arrested at 12:20 a.m. Saturday.

Gomez, who identified himself as a student, faces a misdemeanor charge of carrying a loaded firearm in public.
