Police Blotter: Reported Loose Cow on Redwood Was No Bull

The following information from May 12-15, 2013 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

May 14

8:50 a.m. - A student was walking his bike in the crosswalk at Center Road and Fredson Court at 7:45 a.m. when he reportedly was hit by a car. He can only say that it was a white car. He had a knee injury and was being cared for by school personnel while his parents were in route. A case was taken for hit and run.

9:49 a.m. - A 15-year-old student reportedly drove a large SUV to Novato High School and it was suspected that the student did not have a driver’s license.  The student was being held in the office.  A parent was called to the school and advice was given to all.  No further action was deemed necessary.

12:16 p.m. - A man reported his storage locker located under his apartment complex apartment was broken into in the 1500 block of South Novato Boulevard.  A bike, tent and backpacks were stolen at an estimated loss of $515.

11:18 a.m. - Someone called to say city workers were in the street leaf-blowing and striping on San Marin Drive without warning signs or cones out.  Police arrived and found the crew was done and no hazards were noted.

12.23 p.m. - A resident of Diablo Avenue reported that, three days prior, she was scammed out of $1000 in jewelry by two woman who offered her a portion of a winning lottery ticket.

12:26 p.m. - A son reported that his mother was forging checks while she was in a convalescent hospital on Vineyard Road. The son had copies of the checks. Adult Protective Services was contacted and an investigation is continuing.

6:42 p.m. - A neighbor on Hathaway Drive reports that the upstairs neighbors are continuously jumping and causing a disturbance. Advice was given to all the parties.

7:54 p.m. - The reporting party found bones on the side of their San Marin property and brought them into the police station. The property was held by police and later determined to be animal bones and disposed.

11:48 p.m. - A man described as Hispanic and wearing a black sweatshirt was seen running toward Panda Express on Diablo Avenue where he took a sandwich and soda.

May 13
9:12 a.m. - A caller into dispatch stated that children were driving a golf cart up and down San Marin Drive and San Andreas Drive. The children were gone on arrival. 

9:56 a.m. - A vehicle was parked over the weekend in the 6000 block of Redwood Boulevard and an unknown suspect accessed the locked car and stole the in-dash stereo. The estimated loss was $200.

11:56 a.m. - A student was held in the office at Novato High School for possessing marijuana.  He was cooperative. The student was cited and released to his mother.

12:49 p.m. - A man described as white and in his 40’s with a black shirt and tan shorts was seen punching the outside wall of the Dollar Tree on Diablo Avenue and then punching some trees in the parking lot. He appeared to be really angry and yelling. The man was contacted by police and stated he was frustrated due to lack of money.  He denied medical attention for his injured hand and was evaluated to see if he was a harm to himself or others. He did not meet the criteria. There was no damage to building and he was moved along.

5:47 p.m. - A parent on Little Creek Lane contacted police regarding possible cyber-bullying on Facebook directed toward the parent’s 13-year-old son. Advice was given on social media and a voice message was left for the other party involved.

5:08 p.m. - A resident of the 2000 block of Center Road found a dog in the neighborhood and contacted the Marin Humane Society who said to tie it outside to a tree and maybe owner would spot it. The resident said two kids came up and asked who owned the dog and then took the dog but left two bikes. The resident thinks the kids stole the dog. Humane Society was aware of the situation.  Officers reported some children in the area took the dog for a short time to play with it, but returned it. The resident will keep the dog and hope someone comes to claim it as it is not micro-chipped. The Marin Humane Society will take custody of the dog in a couple of hours if the owner isn’t found.

6:35 p.m. - A bull was reported loose on Wood Hollow approximately 50 yards from Redwood Boulevard. The caller was concerned that a car would hit the bull. Police arrived and reported that a cow ran away upon their arrival and appears to have gotten back through a fence. The roadway was clear.

May 12
11:09 a.m. - Report of green, yellow and brown spray paint was used to vandalize numerous areas of Novato High School with graffiti. Damage was estimated between $5-7,000K.

3:15 p.m. - A vehicle was reportedly hit by a truck in a parking lot located at the Hamilton Safeway. A witness left a note with the license plate of the suspect vehicle. A case was taken for hit and run.
