Plane Makes Crash Landing at Gnoss Field

Novato Fire officials say the front wheel of plane's landing gear sheared off upon landing Saturday night – no one was injured.

A small Cessna 182 plane made a crash landing at Gnoss Field Saturday night but sustained only minor damage and no one was injured in the incident, according to  officials.

The plane attempted to land at Gnoss at around 8:30 p.m. Saturday when the front wheel of its three-wheeled landing gear sheared off for an unknown reason, causing the plane to skid briefly along the runway before coming to a halt, according to Owen Valuch, acting captain with Novato Fire.

Valuch said the wheel failure simply moved the plane back onto its two back wheels and the propellers and body of the plane sustained no damage. The plane’s pilot sustained no injuries.

The runway was shut down for an undisclosed period of time after the incident, Valuch said.
