Novato Women Sentenced to 12-Years for Embezzling from an Elderly Mill Valley Resident

Marianita Capra was sentenced yesterday after being arrested in December, accused of identity theft and financial abuse of an elderly Mill Valley woman.

The Novato woman accused of embezzling from elderly Mill Valley residents was given a 12-year sentence Tuesday, but according to the Marin IJ, will serve little time in actual custody.

Marin Terrace manager Marianita Capra, 50, of Novato, was arrested in December, accused of identity theft and financial abuse of an elderly resident at the 297 Miller Ave. assisted living facility.

Over several months, Capra was suspected of more than $40,000 in fraudulent activity involving one victim, but it was later found there were about a half-dozen.

According to the Marin IJ, Capra will serve two-years in jail and another 10-years on mandatory supervision by probation officers and would face additional incarceration if she fails to meet her conditions.

Deputy District Attorney William Morehead said Capra stole more than $100,000, but credit card companies absorbed some of the losses, so the restitution amount is about $58,000.

Capra is scheduled to turn herself in on Nov. 15 to serve her jail time.
