Novato Police Nab Car Thieves

The suspects are from Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park.

Two people were arrested in the parking lot of a Novato hotel early Saturday on suspicion of stealing the vehicle they were driving, police said.

According to Novato police, officers patrolling in the 7600 block of Redwood Boulevard around midnight saw a suspicious vehicle driving in area. A registration check of the vehicle's license plate number revealed that the 1998 Honda Civic was reported stolen in Santa Rosa on June 15.

Officers stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of America's Best Value Inn and arrested Christopher Nootenboom of Santa Rosa and Melissa Gilbert of Rohnert Park on suspicion of vehicle theft.

Nootenboom, a parolee, was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy, possession of a controlled substance and violation of parole.

Gilbert was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and possession of burglary tools.

Both suspects were booked into Marin County Jail.
