Novato Police Help Solve Child Porn Case

A San Rafael man is accused of downloading pornographic images featuring children at a friend's house in Sausalito.

By Bay City News Service:

A San Rafael man was arrested this week for allegedly using a friend's Internet connection to download child pornography, Sausalito police said Thursday.

Detective Amy Yardly of the Novato Police Department and the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children task force told Sausalito police that child pornography had been downloaded by a computer in Sausalito in September of last year, Sausalito police said.

Sausalito police officers searched the residence and its computers but found no child pornography. The residents gave police a list of houseguests who had access to their Internet connection, Sausalito police said.

Through that list, Sausalito police Detective Brian Mather tracked down Mark Magner, 32, of San Rafael and concluded he had downloaded the pornography, police said.

Police searched Magner's computer and allegedly found multiple videos and pictures of children involved in sexual acts, police said.

Magner met with Sausalito police Tuesday and was arrested on suspicion of possession of obscene matter involving juveniles and children. He was booked into Marin County Jail, police said.
