Novato Police Department Receive Funding for “It’s Up to All of Us” Pedestrian Safety Campaign
An $8,000 grant will be used to implement a 4-month program.
Novato Police received funding approval this week from California Department of Public Health PedSafe Program, for the “It’s Up to All of Us” pedestrian safety campaign. The $8,000 award will provide funding for pedestrian safety educational material and several enforcement operations.
State officials must have been impressed with Novato’s proposal, as NPD Lt. Jennifer Welch said only half of those who applied received funding.
“We are fortunate to have been awarded this funding to continue our prevention, education and enforcement efforts around pedestrian safety,” said NPD Chief Jim Berg in a prepared statement. “This grant will assist our department in our proactive work to reduce pedestrian injuries and fatalities and improving the overall safety of our streets.”

These grant-funded activities will run from the end of May through September 2013 in an effort to increase pedestrian safety.
It’s a new grant, so it’s also a new program for Novato.

“This grant is focused on pedestrian and driver safety,” Welch explained. “Education and enforcement will be used to educate the public about being safe while walking and while operating a vehicle near pedestrians.”
That could very well make it a rough few months for those who speed in neighborhoods or near schools and public places.
