Novato Nailed by Rash of Catalytic Converter Thefts

Selected calls from the log books of Novato PD, April 25-28

April 25 

9:31 a.m. – A woman in the 800 block of Wilson Avenue was arrested for public drunkenness and a probation violation.  She was booked into Marin County Jail. 

10:10 a.m. – A stolen iPhone was recovered at Novato High School.  The suspect attends Marin Oaks and the victim attends ajacent Novato High.  A complaint against the suspect has been requested for possession of stolen property.

4:49 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported at the Original Buffalo Wings restaurant on Alameda Del Prado.  Two teenagers took money belonging to an employee.  Officer(s) contacted all parties involved.  A receipt from the tip jar was found in the pocket of one teen, but the money was unable to be located.  The reporting party declined to make a report or sign a complaint but the mother of one of the teens was contacted and advised.  The teens were advised not to return to the restaurant. 

6:52 p.m. – A complaint was received about an Asian woman going through the recycling area without permission.  The reporting party said the woman had been previously asked not to do this and that there are concerns over identity theft issues.  The woman was contacted but apparently only speaks Vietnamese.  Officer(s) used AT&T to communicate and offer advice.

7:51 p.m. – A burglary was reported at the Atherton Park-n-Ride lot.  A car stereo was taken from a locked vehicle. 

8:22 p.m. – A driver in the vicinity of Novato Boulevard and Tamalpais Avenue reported that a man who had possibly been drinking staggered in front of his vehicle.  The man yelled at the driver and started walking toward his vehicle.  The man was contacted in front of Rite Aid who was very angry.  He said he was mad as a result of being fired and getting bills in the mail.  He was advised to move along and to stop drinking. 

8:57 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the vicinity of Center Road and Diablo Avenue.  A victim reported that his trailer had been vandalized with tagging. 

9:56 p.m. – Vandalism was reported in the 1300 block of Leafwood Drive.  Unknown person(s) through a rock through a residence window.  There is no information on potential suspects. 

April 26

3:50 a.m. – A man was booked into Marin County Jail for driving under the influence in the vicinity of Glenhill Court and Hill Road.  He also faces charges of possession of a controlled substance. 

8:32 a.m. – A warrant arrest was made on Baruna Court.  A man was booked into Marin County Jail and a search warrant was served. 

9 a.m. – A grand theft was reported on Park Crest Court.  The victim’s locked vehicle was entered last night and a purse was taken containing the victim’s driver’s license, credit cards, and $7000 cash from the victim’s business.  There were no signs of forced entry. 

1:40 p.m. – An assault and battery was reported at Marin Oaks School.  An assistant principal was struck abating a fight between students.   

4:57 p.m.  – An assault was reported at the 7-Eleven store on Redwood Boulevard.  A customer said that the cashier threw food at the back of his head as he walked out the door.  The reporting party said he has witnesses.  The store manager said that it was the customer that threw nachos at him after he had told the customer to leave the store. 

6:01 p.m. – Advice was provided to a woman on Greenham Court regarding the bullying of her daughter at school and on Facebook.  The mother has already had contact with the school and district offices and has upcoming meetings with them.  

6:05 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the 1100 block of Second Street.  Tagging appears gang related. 

6:53 p.m. – A grand theft was reported at Vintage Way.  An employee at Ben Franklin reported that when she left work the catalytic converter in her Toyota Tacoma was missing. 

7:06 p.m. – A complaint about eight kids smoking and littering a seating area outside a medical business office in the 1700 block of Novato Boulevard resulted in a warrant arrest of one person. 

8:40 p.m. – A person was arrested and booked for the possession of a controlled substance in the 700 block of Del Mar Avenue.  

8:53 p.m. – A man was arrested and booked into Marin County Jail for public drunkenness in the vicinity of Maybeck Street and Presidio Drive.  

April 27 

2:26 a.m. – A prowler was reported in the 2400 block of Vineyard Road.  The resident reported hearing someone jump into the backyard.  No evidence of trespassing found. 

8:17 a.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 1300 block of Leafwood Drive.  Unknown(s) removed a catalytic converter from a red Toyota truck overnight.  

8:47 a.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 1300 block of Cambridge Street.  Unknown(s) removed a catalytic converter from a Toyota Forerunner parked in the victim’s driveway. 

9:06 a.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 1500 block of Buchanan Street.  Unknown(s) removed a catalytic converter from a Toyota Tacoma. 

9:36 a.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 1400 block of Dawes Street.  Unknown(s) removed a catalytic converter from a vehicle overnight. 

9:56 a.m. – Stolen school property was recovered in the vicinity of San Marin Drive and San Andreas Drive.  A parent of a boy who found a laptop and external hard drive in a field turned in the equipment to Sinaloa Middle School.  

3:32 p.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 1300 block of Leafwood Drive.  Unknown(s) removed a catalytic converter from a vehicle. 

5:09 p.m. – A student at Novato High School was reported to be a danger to herself or others.  The student told the reporting party that she wanted to hurt herself but she did not specify in what manner she was going to carry this out.  The student has no weapons.  The Novato Youth Center had also made contact with similar concerns. 

6:30 p.m. – A grand theft was reported on Digital Drive.  Unknown(s) removed a catalytic converter from a Toyota truck.  The reporting party said the vehicle has not been driven in a while so it was unknown when the theft had occurred. 

9:45 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported on Wentworth Lane when three Hispanic males rang the resident’s doorbell and then started pushing on the door.  A neighbor also saw the three and said the associated vehicle was a black-older model Honda with California plates. 

10:16 p.m. – A group of three or four Hispanic boys were reported pushing and yelling at each other in front of a residence in the 1100 block of Leafwood Court.  Two were cited as minors in possession of alcohol. 

April 28 

11:01 a.m. – The driver of a vehicle in the 1300 block of Leafwood Drive was pulled over for a cell phone violation.  Because the person was driving with a suspended driver’s license the vehicle was impounded. 

12:32 p.m. – Suspended students were reported to be refusing to leave campus at San Marin High School.  One student was being detained in the school office.  The school handled the matter. 

1:00 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported at the Days Inn on Redwood Boulevard after a woman changed rooms and left a syringe and other drug-related paraphernalia behind.  

3:58 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 400 block of Entrada Drive.  The victim’s locked vehicle was broken into while parked near the Dollar Store.  The loss included a briefcase that contained a laptop computer and four years of daily planners. 

6:58 p.m. – A petty theft was reported on the 1300 block of Cambridge Street.  Unknown(s) removed a catalytic converter from a Toyota 4Runner while it was parked in the driveway of a residence. 

9:21 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported at the Novato Wellness Center on Grant Avenue.  Multiple taggings were found on the fence, walls and dumpsters at the property. 

10:25 p.m. – A man was arrested for public drunkenness in the vicinity of Fifth Street and Grant Avenue.  He was transported and released to Helen Vine Detox Center.
