Novato Man Picked Up in San Rafael as Burglary Suspect

Deputies catch man at Santa Venetia home on Sunday.

A 41-year-old Novato man was arrested at a San Rafael home on Sunday evening after what Marin County sheriff’s deputies described as a home burglary.

Deputies were called to a home in the 100 block of North San Pedro Road in Santa Venetia at 4:15 p.m. for a suspected burglary. Humberto Arellano was walking out of the home when deputies arrived, and it was determined that he had forced his way into the home by breaking the glass on a bathroom window and crawling in, according to sheriffs Lt. Barry Heying. Deputies found a bloody hammer they suspect was used by Arellano to break the window, and they also found a back gate that was broken during the forced entrance.

Arellano told the deputies that his daughter lived in the home and he thought something had happened to her. He explained that he removed a pet parrot and small dog from the house and placed them in his car because he thought they would need to be cared for.
