A Novato man suffered life-threatening injuries in a rollover crash on southbound U.S. Highway 101 near Cotati on Monday night, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
Thomas Umphreys, 48, was driving a Toyota Corolla south on the highway at about 65 mph around 8:10 p.m. when he veered to the right and went up an embankment on the west side of the road south of Railroad Avenue, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.
The Toyota overturned and landed on its roof, trapping Umphreys inside, Sloat said. Responding firefighters extricated him from the car, and he was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
An update on his condition was not immediately available this morning.
The front-seat passenger, Angeliki Vartholomeos, 33, of Mill Valley, and her 3-year-old daughter Francis Daverm were able to get out of the vehicle, Sloat said.
They suffered minor injuries and were taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Sloat said.
