Novato Police arrested a local resident Thursday afternoon on suspicion of false imprisonment and vandalism after he allegedly broke into the home of his mother and barricaded himself inside for nearly 90 minutes.
Police were called to a home on Captain Nurse Circle at 2:15 p.m. when a female resident reported that her 19-year-old son was trying to kick down the front door of the home, according to Novato Police Sgt. Nick Frey.
When police arrived, the suspect, Richard Robert Trieber, had made it inside the home had barricaded himself inside and wouldn’t come out, Frey said. As officers tried to rescue two young children from an upstairs bedroom, they were able to take the suspect into custody at around 3:40 p.m. without incident when he opened the front door.
Neither of the children nor Trieber’s mother were injured in the incident, Frey said.
Trieber was booked into the Marin County Jail.
