Novato Man Accused of Stealing Car from Park and Ride Lot

Police said the man was acting oddly while entering a vehicle in the lot, and they followed him, ultimately determining the car wasn't his.

A man was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of vehicle theft at a Novato park and ride lot, police said Thursday.

According to police, an officer observed the suspect, Darbin Duarte, 27, of Novato acting suspiciously in the Binford Road park and ride lot at about 9:30 p.m.

Police said the suspect then got into a vehicle and drove away. The officer followed the vehicle and stopped it for a traffic violation.

During the traffic stop, the officer determined the car was stolen.

In addition to vehicle theft, Duarte was arrested on suspicion of possessing burglary tools, burglary, and receiving stolen property, police said.
