Novato Man Accused of Assaulting Girlfriend in San Rafael

Man and woman who got into a dispute are the parents of a child, police say.

A 22-year-old Novato man stands accused of pushing, punching, kicking and swinging a stick at his girlfriend, according to San Rafael police.

Victor Manuel Sanchez faces three felony charges and three misdemeanors stemming from an incident on Sept. 16 in San Rafael, according to San Rafael Police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher.

Sanchez had a relationship for two years with the woman whom he is accused to assaulting, Rohrbacher said. Sanchez left the scene of the alleged assault on Sept. 16 and was spotted by a police officer Sept. 21 at the intersection of Kerner Boulevard and Sonoma Street. Sanchez provided a false identification to the officer and was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance, Rohrbacher said.
