Robert Jonsen has been fighting crime for 27 years.

Thanks to a tip from Greg Farley, Novato Patch has learned that Robert Jonsen was recently named the police chief in Menlo Park. Jonsen graduated from Novato High in 1981.

Jonsen's 27-year career began with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 1986. Along the way, he oversaw the Antelope Valley Crime Fighting Initiative, a crime reduction and community engagement program that was the recipient of the 'James Q. Wilson Award for Excellence in Community Policing' in 2010.

Jonsen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from California State University - Long Beach, and a Master of Arts Degree in Organizational Leadership from Woodbury University.

The move to Menlo Park brings him closer to his Novato roots. He and his wife Kristie have four grown children and two granddaughters.
