Novato Burglary Suspect Arrested After Brief Chase

The man's weekend arrest came after he tried to run from police in San Marin Plaza and through surrounding neighborhoods, according to authorities.

By Bay City News Service:

A 23-year-old man was arrested for burglary and for possession of illegal drugs in Novato on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Novato police received a report from a resident on Saturday morning that her vehicle had been broken into overnight while it was parked in the 200 block of San Ramon Way.

Officers investigating the incident located the victim's computer in the San Marin Plaza later that morning, police said.

Witnesses described the person who left the computer in the plaza and police identified the suspect as Gregory Ritzinger, a resident of both Novato and Arizona.

At about 2:55 p.m., Ritzinger was seen in the 100 block of San Marin Drive and arrested for burglary, possession of stolen property, possession of illegal drugs, committing a felony while out on bail for a felony and resisting arrest, officers said.

When officers attempted to detain Ritzinger he fled on foot from the San Marin Plaza through the surrounding neighborhoods. He was taken into custody approximately a quarter mile away, police said.

He was in possession of suspected heroin and was out on bail for committing another felony. Ritzinger was booked into the Marin County Jail, police said.
