Highlights from Novato Police Department's police log Aug. 8 to Aug. 14





Gun shots were reportedly fired from a vehicle in the 800 block of Diablo Avenue on Wednesday, August 14. The incident occurred around 1:30am.

Novato Chevrolet, located at 7123 Redwood Blvd, reported that someone cut their lock shortly before 4am Wednesday. It was not immediately clear if any vehicles had been taken.

A resident said that her neighbor is in the habit of walking out on the street naked in the middle of the night, standing outside for about 30 seconds, then returning to his home in the 1800 block of Virginia Avenue. She said he has done this at least four times, but told police she didn’t consider it “indecent exposure” just odd and hoping the police would talk to the man about his strange behavior.

A boy called police after he said his father kicked him out of his car as they were driving near Central and Wilson on Wednesday, August 14. He also said that his father had put him on the hood of the car while the car was moving. The case was referred to Child Protective Services.

DSW, a shoe store at Vintage Oaks, said that two suspects had stolen an estimated $1,100 worth of shoes. One of the suspects was described as a Black man with glasses, a beard and an artificial right leg.

Someone reported loud drums playing in the 100 block of Todd’s Road on Tuesday, August 13. When police responded, they traced the noise to a homeless encampment. Who says you need money to have a good time?

Police responded to a complaint about two men selling electronics from a vehicle in the 300 block of Ignacio Boulevard on Tuesday, Aug. 13. But when officers arrived, the suspects had already left.

A resident called police after finding a butcher’s knife in the alley behind Las Guitarras restaurant on Monday, Aug. 12. It’s not clear why the knife was there and police are investigating.

A man visiting his uncle, a Novato resident, found the 70-year-old man dead. He said he had last had contact with him a month ago and grew concerned when his relative didn’t return calls. He said he had called again and again, but that the man’s voicemail was full. Police did not disclose the address of the home, referring the case to the coroner’s office. 

A woman reported graffiti on the First Church of Christ Scientist on Sunday, Aug. 11. The reporting party said someone had spray painted obscenities on a fence, which she believed were directed at her. An investigation is ongoing.

A woman was placed on mental health watch after she ingested 25 Ambien tablets in the course of three hours on Sunday, Aug. 11.

A sewage leak from a manhole cover in the 800 block of Hayden Avenue on Saturday, Aug. 10.

An Isuzu Rodeo was reported stolen Friday, Aug. 9 from the 100 block of Los Robles Road.

Numerous residents reported receiving calls from someone saying they were an employee of PG&E. The caller told residents that their utilities would be disconnected if the bill was not immediately paid. When one enterprising resident plugged the called ID number into Google, it appeared on a site about scams. Police warn residents to never send money to anyone who solicits over the phone and calling the company back to verify their identity.
