Motorcyclist OK After Crash on Highway 101
Petaluma man with diabetes had low blood-sugar level when he was treated after the wreck, then perked right up after receiving a shot, CHP says.
Investigators believe low blood-sugar levels caused a diabetic motorcycle rider to drift into another lane of Highway 101, strike another car and crash to the pavement Sunday evening in Novato.
California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Roth said Thomas Knecht, 57, of Petaluma was riding northbound just north of the Rowland Boulevard exit at about 8:38 p.m. when he sideswiped a car in the fast lane, causing him to lose control.
A medical team transported Knecht to Marin General Hospital in a semi-conscious state, Roth said, but someone gave him a shot "and he came right to. That's why they believed he was in a diabetic shock when the crash occurred."

Knecht had cuts and scrapes but no broken bones, Roth said.
