Motorcycle Officer Injured in Accident

A Novato police officer on a motorcycle was injured Thursday after a car changing lanes struck him, according to the California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the incident.

Motorcycle Officer Andrew Barrington was on patrol, riding his Honda police motorcycle northbound on Redwood Boulevard south of Rush Creek Place when he was struck by a 68-year-old female driver.

According to the CHP, the driver changed lanes at the same time as the officer began to pass her, causing the woman's left front of the car to strike the motorcycle officer.

The collision caused the motorcycle to fall onto its right side, throwing Officer Barrington into the roadway where both he and the motorcycle continued sliding before coming to rest in a lane. Barrington was transported to Marin General Hospital with moderate injuries, none of which appear to be life threatening.

As a result of the accident, a northbound lane on Redwood Boulevard and one southbound lane were shut down for two hours while crews investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
