More Than $25,000 in Jewelry Stolen; Suspect is 8 Years Old

The following information from Sept. 22-23 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner:

4:11 p.m., Sept. 22 — A roommate is suspected of stealing more than $25,000 worth of jewelry from another roommate on Seventh Street. After investigation, the suspect was identified as an 8-year-old. The majority of the missing property was recovered.

4:13 a.m. — Someone reported a suspicious vehicle driving up and down near Lynwood Drive and Midway Boulevard. The car was pulling over and stopping, the moving again. Officers determined it was a newspaper delivery person.

9 a.m. — A suspicious woman was walking on the 7300 block of Redwood Boulevard wearing a bandana over her face and loitering near an ATM machine. The woman was gone on officer arrival.

12:04 p.m. — A 20-year-old man on Oak View Court told his parents he would kill himself after having disagreements with them. The man was placed on a psychiatric  hold and transported to a hospital.

1:19 p.m. — A resident of Thunderbird Drive reported hearing shots in the distance, possibly from a rifle. The reporting party was reminded that it is deer season.

1:44 p.m. — A 6-year-old was suspected of stealing a Nintendo game from a residence on Romar Court. The reporting party only requested that the item be returned. The parent of the child was advised.

2:14 p.m. — A possible sexual offense was reported at Novato Community Hospital. A great-grandmother brought in a girl who was partying in Petaluma the previous night and blacked out. The family was instructed to contact Petaluma police.

3:10 p.m. — The front door of a residence in the 700 block of Olive Avenue was egged and a neighbor is suspected. Advice was given.

3:11 p.m. — A VW was struck and damaged in a parking lot in the 1500 block of South Novato Boulevard and the reporting is asking the property manager to check surveillance cameras.

3:28 p.m. — A boy wearing a Novato High jersey reportedly stole a watermelon and drinks from a business in the 1500 block of South Novato Boulevard. He was seen running toward apartments on Hill Road. The boy was located, cited and released to his grandmother. Another suspect was identified and will be contacted later.

3:59 p.m. — A blue Pontiac Firebird ran over a center media on Hamilton Parkway and took down a one-way sign, according to a witness. The suspect was contacted and a hit-and-run case was taken.

5:54 p.m. — A silver Volkswagen Jetta was reported stolen from a parking lot at Vintage Oaks Shopping Center.

6:04 p.m. — A  man who was seen stumbling and running into walls was arrested and booked on a drug charge inside a Vintage Oaks Shopping Center business.

7:57 p.m. — Someone heard two men fighting behind the Safeway store on Nave Drive and heard one scream "I will stab you." One subject took off on a bike, which was later found and confiscated. Subjects were not located.

11:33 p.m. — The window of a Ford Ranger pickup was smashed and a wallet was taken from a center console in the 5500 block of Nave Drive.

11:55 p.m. — A bike was stolen from a backyard in the 400 block of Entrada Drive.

Sept. 23

12:09 a.m. — Fireworks were heard on Muroc Lake Drive. Unable to locate the source.

3:14 a.m. — Six men were reported to be fighting in the 1800 block of Novato Boulevard. One was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

4:22 a.m. — A silver Volkswagen Jetta reported stolen the previous day was located unoccupied at the Vintage Oaks Shopping Center.

8:16 a.m. — A large sum of cash was missing from a locked Chevy van on Elm Drive. No suspect information was given.

11:53 a.m. — Someone reported suspicious circumstances when he saw turkey vultures circling overhead near Whole Foods. The remains of a raccoon were found on De Long and it is being scavenged by the vultures. The Marin Humane Society was advised. Click here for photos of this incident.

12:35 p.m. — A woman was asked to turn down loud music on Sweetster Avenue when a neighbor made vague threats to vandalize property. It was determined to be an ongoing dispute and subjects were advised.

1:07 p.m. — A Nintendo system was reported stolen from a Lassen Court residence. The reporting party's children had friends over and believes one of the kids might have done it.

7:02 p.m. — A woman on Muroc Lake Drive said she was threatened by a neighbor after the reporting party's 5-year-old child went to visit the neighbor's house to play with another child. Advice was given.

9:11 p.m. — A 15-year-old girl has been cutting her wrists and expressing suicidal thoughts was transported from Novato Community Hospital to the psychiatric ward at Marin General Hospital.
