Missing 5-Year-Old Found Safe Under the Blankets

The following information from June 8–12 was supplied by the Novato Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The Headliner: 

June 12,  10 p.m. – A 5-year-old boy was reported missing at a block party in the vicinity of Madeline Court. A white van had been seen parked on the street that was no longer there.  The missing boy was located inside his residence asleep under the blankets on a bed shortly after Novato police arrived. 

June 8

2:16 a.m. – A man on Rockport Way reported that his wife who had been drinking hit him in the face with her fist.  He declined medical attention.  The woman was booked into Marin County Jail for corporal injury on a spouse. 

11 a.m. – Vandalism was reported at San Marin High School after boy punched out two windows and damaged a picture frame in one of the classrooms.  The boy fled on foot.

11:49 a.m. – A fight was reported at the Wyndover Apartments.  An argument over rent money turned physical.  No injuries were reported.  Advice was given to both parties. 

3 p.m. – Domestic violence was reported in the 1400 block of Indian Valley Road.  A passerby heard a woman yelling for help and reported it to police.  Officers took a man into custody and he was booked into Marin County Jail for spousal abuse. 

3:54 p.m. – A report documented that a man was seen with a handgun in the 1000 block of Fifth Street.  He was a Hispanic man about 20 years old and he was in the company of another three men.  He was wearing a black T-shirt and jeans. 

4:55 p.m. – Vandalism and trespassing were reported at a sober living house in the 1600 block of Center Road.  Someone broke a window and entered the home and took his own property.  He had been previously advised to stay away from the premises. 

5:49 p.m. – A resident reported bicyclists riding in the skate park on Hamilton Parkway.  Four bicyclists were in the park on arrival.  Two were actually riding and were cited.  The other two were warned. 

7:09 p.m. – A white man in his 50s with a thin build and wearing a white shirt and blue jogging pants took a full tank of propane from the Shell station in the 7400 block of Redwood Boulevard.  He fled southbound on Redwood in a black Ford pickup.  The loss is about $24.

7:36 p.m. – Domestic violence was reported on Hathaway Drive after a woman was pushed by her husband.  He also tried to pull a phone out of a wall. 

June 9 

6:41 a.m. – A passerby flagged down an officer about a man who had been drinking that was banging on an apartment door in the 1500 block of Center Road. The man was arrested for an outstanding Marin County felony warrant and booked. 

12:23 p.m. – Shoplifting was reported at Target.  A man removed two portable computer hard drives and left the store without paying for them.  The unknown Asian male has committed two previous thefts at the store.  Target has surveillance video of the thefts.  The loss is about $240. 

2:17 p.m. – A hit-and-run misdemeanor was reported at Costco when a man noticed that his motorcycle had been hit while he was at work.  

8:33 p.m. – Nine kids were reported on a roof in the 700 block of Cherry Street and throwing pine cones at people.  The kids were contacted and admonished. 

11:29 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 600 block of McClay Road.  A woman said she found her back door open when she got home and discovered a laptop and some cash missing.  

June 10 

1:18 a.m. – A verbal disturbance reported in the 1500 block of Center Road was the result of a woman and her step brother in an argument over rent.  The reporting party said the man had been drinking and that he tried to hit his stepsister.  The man left willingly and paid the money he owed. 

10:54 a.m. – A hit and run misdemeanor was reported in the Wells Fargo parking lot on Grant Avenue.  Another customer witnessed the incident and provided a license plate number.  Officer(s) contacted both parties and information was exchanged between them. 

12:22 p.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 700 block of Cherry Street after a resident found a wedding band and other rings missing.  She believes she knows who took the items. The theft occurred some time between 9:30 p.m. and midnight.  The loss is approximately $50,000. 

1:32 p.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 600 block of Santana Road.  Unknown(s) stole three rings from the kitchen area of the victim’s residence.  Los is estimated at $42,000. 

1:48 p.m. – Shoplifting was reported at Old Navy on Vintage Way.  Store personnel have surveillance video of two unknown black women in their 20s who took items from the store and left without paying.  The women got into a silver Toyota hatchback and were last seen driving toward the frontage road. 

5:58 p.m. – A resident reported power flickering and possibly a transformer popping in the 1600 block of Hill Road. PG&E responded and shut off power.  The subsequently repaired the power lines. 

6:33 p.m. – A reporting party in the 900 block of Front Street said that he had been drinking and smoking crystal meth and that he wants help.  He was taken into custody for public drunkenness but released at Novato Community Hospital for medical treatment with no charges filed.  The Helen Vine detox center is to follow up. 

6:44 p.m. – A man with an open bottle of Black Velvet scotch was reportedly trying to fight customers in the Viking Lounge on Redwood Boulevard.  He headed off toward First Street.  The man was taken into custody for public intoxication.  He became uncooperative and threatening.  He was booked into Marin County Jail.

6:56 p.m. – Vandalism was reported in the vicinity of First Street and Grant Avenue.  A person was cited and released. 

10:53 p.m. – A 16-year-old girl was reported passed out and lying on the ground in the 900 block of Diablo Avenue.  The girl was found to be intoxicated and was released to her mother at Novato Community Hospital with a juvenile citation. 

11 p.m. – Two people were detained on drug related charges in the vicinity of Jennifer Lane and McClay Road.  One person was booked for being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine and for possession of related paraphernalia.  The second person was cited for being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic syringe and was released. 

June 11 

9:59 a.m. – A teacher on leave was reportedly removing property from Pleasant Valley Elementary school.  The reporting party requested PD presence while the teacher was asked to leave.  The teacher was advised by the school district to have the principal with her to remove any items from school property. 

10:33 a.m. – A suspicious subject was reported sleeping in the playground area at Pioneer Park on Simmons Lane.  The man was searched and asked that he relocate away from the children’s area.  He agreed and complied. 

11:55 a.m. – A soccer player reported being threatened by another player from an opposing team during a match at Novato High School.  The opposing player had head-butted him over a previous play.  Advice was given regarding continued on field conflict with an opposing player that may turn physical in the future.  Nothing further was requested. 

12:32 p.m. – A 2-year-old girl was reportedly seen about to cross Redwood Boulevard by Scottsdale Pond by herself.  A Good Samaritan stood by with the child until the mother was contacted.  Officer(s) provided advice regarding the busy street and the need to provide constant supervision.  The mother advised that she was aware of where he daughter was and only stepped away for a moment.

12:42 p.m. – A burglary was reported in the 1100 block of Lea Drive.  

12:54 p.m. – Graffiti vandalism was reported in the 800 block of Tamalpais Avenue.  A carport was tagged overnight. 

1:02 p.m. – A shoplifter was detained at Whole Foods market on De Long Avenue.  The man was cited for petty theft after taking two slices of pizza. 

7:42 p.m. – Suspicious circumstances were reported in the 700 block of Plaza Hermosa after someone reported seeing a man on the floor and another person kicking him.  The victim was uncooperative and said he had fallen down.  He will not provide any additional information and he refused medical attention.  The victim had minor injuries. 

9:16 p.m. – A person was driving under the influence in the vicinity of Redwood Boulevard and San Marin Drive.  The driver was booked and the vehicle was towed. 

10:34 p.m. – A man who was reportedly refusing to leave the Viking Lounge was booked for public drunkenness and an outstanding warrant. 

June 12 

7:55 a.m. – A white Dodge Durango reportedly hit a fence and telephone poles in the 500 block of McClay Road and then fled the scene.  A man was driving the vehicle with rear-end damage. 

11:03 a.m. – A hit-and-run misdemeanor was reported at the Days Inn on Redwood Boulevard.  A black Ferrari Spider was hit in the parking lot.  A witness said it was hit by a maroon Buick.  A possible suspect was contacted. 

12:37 p.m. – A grand theft was reported in the 100 block of Randolph Drive.  The reporting party said that a former foster son took jewelry from her residence and sold it. The items are currently at a pawnshop in Northgate Mall. 

4:29 p.m. – A woman was seen stumbling on the way to her vehicle parked in the 1700 block of Grant Avenue.  She was arrested and booked for driving under the influence. 

5:35 p.m. – A person in the 800 block of Diablo Avenue reported that six gang members were just banging at the door.  Officer(s) contacted a woman who had reportedly thrown a rock and damaged the TV of the reporting party. 

8:37 p.m. – A gold Mercedes SUV crashed into a street sign on Marblehead Lane.  The drive was reported to be an Indian man wearing glasses who apparently lost control of his vehicle.
