By Bay City News Service:

Enhanced law enforcement efforts in Marin County during Cinco de Mayo resulted in 10 DUI arrests Monday, police said.

San Rafael police made eight of the arrests and Novato police made two, according to San Rafael police.

The majority of the arrests were for drivers under the influence of alcohol, although authorities said one driver was under the influence of marijuana and another was under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs.

One of the San Rafael arrests was for felony DUI after the driver and his passenger were involved in a collision on Coleman Drive.

Police said the car veered off of the roadway, went through a fence and struck a tree. The passenger was transported to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and California's Office of Traffic Safety provided funding for the additional officers working on the saturated patrols.
